Seriously though, is the WTA gone crackers or something? If that idea isn't a parody itself, what is it? Really? It's literally the most stupid thing we'll hear all year... :nono

Sadly, I don't think it's worst thing we'll hear. :speechless:

folks, I don't think that is a real news/blog article. It is a onion type satire article in response
to the announcement of "tournament of champions" in China (this is the second grade
WTF) with an extended field of 12 players. If nothing else, the "rising headcases" should
have given it away to everybody.

Leads me to think, if she were serious she could have spent 5 years there easily.

If she holds out and claims number 1 next week she gets 2 free months essentially with November and December. She will probably lose it temporarily next year and regain it in Australia.

Right. Especially true since she is not playing Brisbane.

Mallory Burdette, one of the most promising young Americans in the womens game, has had to call time out on her professional tennis career because of a nagging shoulder injury. After a glittering college career Burdette made a move to the pros in 2012,catching the eye of the tennis world in her first WTA event- after reaching the second round, she stormed to a 5-2 lead,Marion Bartoli with set point, before the then Top 10 player came back to win in straight sets.Burdette kept it up over the next year, reaching the third round three times at WTA events (including the US Open) and twice pushing Top 20 players to three sets (Kirilenko and Jankovic). But a shoulder injury that kept her out the last few months of 2013 just hasnt let up in 2014,and the American, who turned 23 earlier this year-has had to close the curtain on her career.

Per WTA Website October 15th.

Wishing you all the best Mallory in your future plans.

The problem with those ifs is that you never know what it would lead to. She might have been the GOAT or burnt-out already or whatever. It makes no sense to even ask them.

Who are you talking about?

of course, Serena.

Shaking my head....some people. The point is she has 18 slams and she has been #1 for over 209 weeks.....so put that in your pipe and smoke it.:puzzled

Sure, whatever she has already achieved is definitely great.

However, I am not talking about her in comparison to other players. I am talking about
her in comparison to her potential. It is my contention that she did not fully capitalize on
her potential.

You have to understand that what I am talking about is different. It is possible for
a player to fully take advantage of their talent and yet not to win a single grand slam.

You have got to be frigging kidding me. What the hell does this woman have to do to please you folks. She has 18 majors, over 60 trophies, 13 doubles, and mix doubles, over 209 weeks at #1, own the top 10 players on the WTA and yet you are claiming that she has under achieve. Many you either need to put down that pipe and the Johnny Walker bottle because clearly you are not playing with a full deck to make a statement like that about this GOAT and outstanding tennis player....SMH.

Oh and I forgot the 4 gold medals.

Petkovic in no "condition to play",but expected to compete in Fed Cup Final.

Andrea Petkovic says she is experiencing physical and personal issues that are affecting her tennis. The 16th ranked Petkovic lost her opening match for a second tournament in a row, exciting against Pauline Parmentier in Luxembourg.

"I'm currently not so good,in health and privately,"she said in a tearful interview with German television after the match."I'm currently not in any condition to play tennis."

The statement led to concerns about Petkovic's participation in the Fed Cup Final against the Czech Republic, where she is expected to play singles alongside German No 1 Angelique Kerber. But her father Zoran, told Bild that the physical issue was a wrist injury and that the personal problems were "nothing tough," adding that she would play the team competition as scheduled following a week's break.

Fed Cup Captain Barbara Rittner indicated that Petkovic was still her choice for singles, saying,"A little break for mind and body will help."The team and atmosphere in Prague will take care of everything else".

Report from Kamakshi Tandon 17th October.

I SO don't want to see Petko hurt herself more. I really wish the German tennis association would be responsible and have her sit out. She's faced enough with injury and it was such an amazing feat for her to climb back into the top 20 this year.

Serena was portrayed on "unguarded" program of CNN. Can someone post the complete
video of that here. I only saw bits and pieces.
