revenge for what..:puzzled...Venus has always owned Vinci..:popcorn

Well it's obviously not Venus it's about - try to remember the US Open you'll get an idea
[/quote]Venus is very professional and plays her best against anyone across the net...Vinci has always lost to Venus.I am sure Venus and Vinci are mature enough to know that a loss is not the end of the world....there is always an event somewhere to redeem themselves.:popcorn

And Pliskova in the top 10 too - because Pennetta is not playing anymore.

This bumps her all the way up to 7?

the fans in Zhuhai and Zuhan embraced Venus and that relaxed her...I want her to reach the top like she is supposed to..
this should be a lesson to those players that feel that these small events are below them...
go Venus Ebony Starr!

Yes she earns 700 points by her win - here is the new top 11 - and actually this event is meant to be a big event in the future, but maybe it should be before the final 8 tournament. Excellent conditions and great interest from the public.

1 Serena Williams USA 9945
2 Simona Halep ROU 6060
3 Garbine Muguruza ESP 5200
4 Maria Sharapova RUS 5011
5 Agnieszka Radwanska POL 4500
6 Petra Kvitova CZE 4220
7 Venus Williams USA 3790
8 Flavia Pennetta ITA 3621 Has retired so her name is pulled out before the new season
9 Lucie Safarova CZE 3590
10Angelique Kerber GER 3590
11Karolina Pliskova CZE 3285

I still can't see that working out. N0. 9, who is an alternate for the YEC, qualifies for Zhuzai, plays and wins the tournament. Then one of the YEC withdraws and no. 9, the legitimate first alternate, plays. So No. 9 gets to play two tournaments instead of 1 --- and all hell breaks loose :D

Yeah that would be too complicated. Has it always been 700 points? Thats a great incentive along with the money to play.

SO, the year started with a Williams win and ends with a Williams win.

Aga actually raised two valid complaints about the BLT.

1. It should not be possible for a player playing in BLT to get into top 8 rankings. But, it is currently possible as V demonstrated. This is convoluted.

2. BLT should not be mandatory considering it is another extra tourney and lengthens the schedule by 2 more weeks.

I agree on both counts with Aga.

However, I like the format of the BLT as it is tanking proof.

Perhaps WTA should consider ditching BLT altogether and simply expand the WTA finals to a 12 player event conducted in the same way as the current BLT.

That will lead to extra rest for players, will not lead to weird ranking situations and cause other issues that Aga mentioned. Will the WTA listen to me?

in the scheme of things Aga is small fish...she should be worried about staying small in the top ten..win several slams then start barking about changes.:popcorn

It has to nothing to do with Aga is a small fish or big fish. Learn to look at the merits of the argument instead of simply dismissing it based on the messenger.

BTW, ditching BLT and expanding WTA finals to 12 players is my idea and was not suggested by Aga.
