Still having trouble figuring out this tournament but if Venus wins the thing, she could finish at No. 7 in the Year-end rankings. I realize it's a schedule thing and all but this tournament really should come before the WTA Finals. Very anticlimactic and not getting much attention I think. Most fans are confused by it because it's after the "season-ending" championships in Singapore. Needs to be rethought.

Technically that would be difficult. The Elite Championship is supposed to be #9 - 20; but #9 and 10 are also alternates for the YEC. If the Elite played before YEC then there's the possibility that #9-10 could end up playing both tournaments.

Yeah, it's a messy setup. Those who didn't qualify for the WTA but won a tournament during the year is what I read. And as you said, the alternate situation makes it impossible. Venus was jogging around Singapore last week just in case she was needed. (Considering all the injuries the women had, it was a miracle she wasn't.) But the tournament just seems very anticlimactic and unless you're a big fan of one of the players, it seems to go unnoticed.

No, that was until last year.

Until last year, this was the tournament of smallest winners.

Starting this year, this is the tournament of biggest losers.

:snicker Wow, a 360 degree turn from where they were? That's drastic.

Anyways, I've read in a couple places that rule isn't set in concrete but it's still there.

I was watching the match between Keys and Venus at the end of it,she was very cold to Venus and didnt understood why....does she think she is better than Venus and shouldnt be losing to a 7 time slam winner. When she lost to Sloane at the Miami event she behaved the same way...very cold at the net but when she loses to the Europeans she is smiley and friendly...is it because she thinks she is superior to these players ...I hope that Sloane will continue to pummel her into submission and flatten that pova loving ass.
she wears pova s clothes, her agent is pova s agent and plays at pova s exho s...#poodle..she must have self hate issues.

Yeah it's only because Caroline withdrew from the tournament AND she beat Svetlana herself.

What is your obsession with Maria Sharapova about I wonder? - Do you have indecent dreams about her or what? - Your hateful (and even racist) rants about Maria Sharapova are exceptional and of course the "administrator" just let it pass by for some reason - But he's of course a documented "shriek hater" - Still it's weird that the rest of the decent members here just tolerate tossip's crap and never protest - All of you should always speak up against evil

You simply ignore the person or make your point as you've done now - and then don't go into arguing there's no point in that. Then you can "like" the persons who write something you like. It gives a bit of confidence to those people. I normally ignore Tossip and comment if there's something I like - actually quite simple we can't agree in everything, can we.

Unfortunately I'm not that kinda person - I'll always speak up when people spew hate comments about certain players - It is equivalent to RT hooliganism - Sorry hoergren - ignore won't do against real evil - it won't make the world (or tennis frontier) a better place - History has taught us what happens when we just stand by silently and don't react versus hate

All these years and you still don't get it Masha. The mods can't please everyone. When we do step in to moderate a situation that goes against board policy, we are called controlling and limiting free speech. You want us to moderate a user who is expressing his opinion. He is not abusing another poster. Tossip has a right to his opinion of Maria be it negative or otherwise, just as you have a right to be her fan and sing her praises.

So tell me, what exactly would you have us do?

Having a negative opinion about a tennis player like - She's a lousy player or even I dislike her shrieks is one thing but comments which clearly show contempt or even hate towards a player have no place in any forum - This is a tennis forum and one can wonder how comments like "pova's smug behind - no man wants her or flatten that pova loving ass" are relevant or accepted comments on a tennis site - The comment about Keys having "self hate issues" border close to racism since it is insinuated that Keys as a black woman can not like a white peer

I am all for free speech - However even in the real world free speech is limited when it comes to slander other persons - Somewhere you've to draw a line and as far as I can see it is you guys who're administrating this site who don't get that

If I had been the administrator I would have banned tossip for life a long time ago - Guys like him just poison the good sense of a forum with all his hate

Why the hell do you travel from message board to message looking for comments about pova and trying to defend them. Does she pay you for that service? it is truly pathetic. I could name at least 5 message boards where you keep popping up....give it a rest.

I remember reacting to what I thought was a post from that contributor that didn't fall very short of tin-foil claptrap (and I say that as a black woman) -- then I realised after a while that everyone else seemed to be ignoring that poster, so I too decided to ignore him/her. Sometimes it just doesn't make sense flogging a dead horse on the internet.

My advice to you: fight the battles where you can win them; on the internet, /ignore is your friend :)
