What was Stakhovsky's ranking last year?

One thing seems likely - Rafa will never win another Wimbledon. Three in a row out before the QF and he isn't getting any younger.

That seems rash.

He's not getting younger, true - but he has the extra week next year to prepare. I think winning the FO has been detrimental to him the last couple of seasons, maybe it's age, but he's not getting grasscourt play before Wimbledon. And the way this guy played today, he was channeling Sampras on serve, be glad it was Rafa who faced him.

It's far too early to say Rafa won't win any of the majors, despite his bad run at Wimbo...

Wonder what the excuse will be this time? I could take an educated guess or two.

If you saw his press conference, he made no excuses. He praised Kyrgios for playing a great third set tiebreak, and for bringing a big serve and power shots. That's it. Don't accuse Rafa of something he didn't do.

It's such a rare occurrence to give full credit to his opponent; that's his rep! Please don't act like he's some kind of saint in this respect! He and his camp are full of excuses! :nono :puzzled :laydownlaughing

Gulp. Just woken up and Nadal is out.

Haven't seen anything yet but I do like the young aussie who beat him. He's been refreshing from the get go and will hopefully give Australian tennis a timely shot in the arm.

I actually agree. Rafa had a very tough draw and if Gasquet had closed Kyrgios out on one of those nine match points this would have been a very different tournament for Rafa. And while Wimbledon seems to be where Rafa is most vulnerable it still takes a special performance to knock him out.

My post isn't hagiographic; it's the truth. I'm fully aware of when Rafa makes excuses, but when he doesn't, that should be acknowledged, too.

He just mentioned Wimbledon.

You make a good point that he will have an extra week to prepare. They should have added that week years ago.

Took a special performance from Stakhovsky to take out Federer last year too but thing is they're both getting older each year so it won't get any easier. Especially seeing guys like Kyrgios playing like this at just 19. Another player with a winning h2h against Nadal now too since people were discussing players on tour with winning h2h lately.

I bet you enjoyed watching Kyrgios, Front. ;)

But I have to hand it to him, he was brilliant. I couldn't even muster up any hatred towards him, no venom, no middle finger when he flashed another ace. I thought Rafa played quite well - but Kyrgios was humongous...

And take special notice that no one has used the dreaded "C" word. (OK, nor that one.)

I did but not only 'cos he won but he was flat out brilliant. Nerves of absolute steel and 37 aces first time playing Nadal. Phenomenal stuff. Rosol served less in 5 sets! But it was hardly just his serve that won it, his all round game is fantastic too. Gives me another player to follow in the not too distant future when Federer calls it quits. I know there was much hype with Tomic when he first took a set off Djokovic at Wimbledon, but this guy is the real deal I believe for once and most definitely a future slam winner. He's still in with a good shot here!

What someone called Kyrgios the C word for winning? As in Khan in a Cockney accent ? :D Harsh.
