It obviously had to come at some point. I wouldn't even say it's because of age. This happens to any tennis player at any age. Every player goes out there and has a bad day. Sometimes their opponent beats themselves and sometimes they pull an upset. It's just amazing Serena had 34 good days in a row!

Lisicki really is a great player especially on grass. I think if she could keep herself healthier she would be a top 10 player by now.

Serena looked tired today and didnt serve aces like she normally does...at least she won RG13.

She was ahead in set 3 though and lost it.
YES...she looked sluggish from the start and was playing below par.I think the absence of Richard,Oracene and Venus affected her...especiallyRichard because he has been a constant at Wimbledon for all these years.

Nobody was noticing her family's absence when she was waxing Date and the others in the first 3 rounds. It's an excuse Tossip. She just didn't have it today against someone who wasn't going away.

Even w/ Sabine's big game, Serena still had chances and just didn't play the big points well. Sabine looked like the number 1 player. You have to give credit where it's due.

She tightened up inexplicable when she was in total control, unusual for her.

But, no, Sabine didn't look like the number 1 player, she looked like a good player whom outlasted her opponent.

Sabine played loose, Serena was tight.
Sabine fired 10 more winners than Serena, fired more aces. Better net play,
When was the last time Serena got out-played and out-gunned?

This was a match of huge momentum swings, first set 6-2 Sabine, then 9 games in a row for Serena ...Sabine winning last 4 games.

Sorry Calvy, IMO Serena just got outplayed today. In the third set she faced a player who played like......Serena Williams coming from behind!:) Serena gave Sabine much props and said that next time she has to mix up her serves better because Sabine was reading them VERY well! On to the next one for the world's #1 WTA player.

Ultimately it doesn't matter what happens in the middle as long as you win the last game, right Kiu?

In all her losses this year and last year she was out-played. Think about it. Vika earlier this year, Sloane in AO, Kerber on the HC and then that Razzano match. In all of the ones I mentioned (except for Doha), she had control of the match like today, tightened up and the opponent ended up winning because they didn't back down.

She did the same thing against Kuznetsova at the FO, Cibulkova at Miami and Vika at the USO. The difference there is she was able to hold her serve in the critical moments and she played the big points better.

Sorry, IMO opinion, Sabine was VERY solid, but, Serena also didn't help her cause, she underplayed, playing very tentative tennis. That happens at times when one gets older. Serena gave Sabine props, but, she also stated, she learned from this match she can't take foot off the gas - paraphrasing here.

And the drama @ Wimbledon continues! Another top player, the #1 Serena Williams bites the dust and was defeated by Sabine Lisicki (GER) 26, 61, 46 and all the Serena supporters are in shock. Well, stuff happens to the best and you never can be sure how it goes no matter how great your favorite is and how many titles or matches she has won. I congratulate Sabine for a stellar victory. She did the same trick last year when she unexpectedly defeated Maria Sharapova in R4 here. It seems like Wimbledon brings out the best of Sabine. I truly hope that she even can win her next match and isn't ousted immediately like she was last year after she defeated Maria Sharapova

Of the top 10 at least 3 are still in the running, A. Radwanska, Na Li and Petra Kvitova. We just have to see if any of them can win Wimbledon or if it will be an outsider like Sabine, Kaia, Sloane, Marion or Kirsten. If that happens then it would be in line with all of the other surprises this year

The problem also for Serena is she uses her top spin a bit too much at times on her shots. It works on clay very well, but on grass and on hard courts you need to hit with a bit more weight and authority and flatten out those shots. I think this is why she has had a lot more 3 set matches than we usually see from her especially on hard courts this year. She needs to pick her spots better with her spin.

One thing about Serena, she usually learns from her mistakes!

I believe that Serena prepared so well for the clay season that if affected her grass game. Playing doubles with her sister also helps her game on grass. There needs to be more time between the clay and grass season. The fact that Bjorg was able to win the FO and Wimby back to back so often is absolutely amazing!

It's a testament to the kind of athlete he was that he could make those adjustments 5.5 times. I say half because in his 6th try of winning Wimby he lost in the final.

Well, you live and learn. She now knows the problem. I think it will only help her recover for the US Open. Hopefully, this loss will light a fire to win the US Open.
