Brown hits the ball hard and has very good serve, very tricky opponent. I hope to see better FH and serve by Rafa and be able to pass that difficult test/match :puzzled

Enough, ( not directed at you Miss Carol ) but all this talk and concerned over Dustin Brown is something that I will not try to comprehend. Last year at Halle, Rafa was physically spent from playing winning the RG championship. All due respect to DB but Rafa really was happy to show up and collect the appearance fee at Halle. Sure, he would have liked to advanced further but he really wasn't focused to play a player like Brown who didn't have anything to loose. No excuses but Rafa will defeat this guy in straight sets and I would be very surprised if he doesn't. Brown is a dangerous player on grass but he is playing one of the greatest tennis players of almost every generation, he will be ready to dispose of DB. Trust me .

the level of failure of this post is just awesome. I am happy Brown proved such posters wrong today :clap:clap:lolz::lolz:

To even believe one of the greatest tennis players of almost every generation would just go through the motions of 1 match for appearance fees shows how little his fans know him :nono:nono
That guy is a great competitor and wont throw away a match at all, if he would he would not be here

Well , Give me credit, I stood by my champion based on how he played at Stuttgart and all his practices. Rafa needs a sports psychologists or etc. Have your laugh or whatever Tennisville, it not a good time for Rafa.Congrats Dustin Brown

post match interview - a bit surprised, i must say, how soft-spoken and thoughtful Brown seems. i've watched him a lot those past years, and with all his little quirks and superstitions, i must admit i would have expected a little more 'crazy'.

Maybe he is enough smart to know that he has beaten one of the best players of the history but playing the worst :nono. And looking his good reaction I'm starting to be her fan from now :clap

Nadal has played worse you know right and won too........

Worse? when, where and what year?

A colored man, with short sleeved shirt, piercings, long hair, sponsorsed t-shirt, won.

Anti-Wimbledon man could be said.

Don't worry AP, you still have one horse (WTA) left in the race right?

Did you have any bets on Brown, Darth? Didn't bother with any this year and probably should have. Guy made me a mint last time.

I saw the end of set two and set three. Dustin was aggressive and almost flippant with his shotmaking. He kept coming and would've been pasted on clay with that kind of attack, but it works on grass, especially with his service. Kudos to Mr. Brown--he had a plan and he stuck to it. Some shots Rafa has hit many times at big moments; today, they missed by a little. I can recall writing similar things about Roger four or five years ago. It happens to all of them, although Nadal's record the last four years in London is shocking for one of the best to play the game. It looks as though he needs to win on some surface a lot to get back his confidence. All in all, though, it appears Dustin earned this victory more than Nadal giving it away, at least from what I saw. There were a lot of competitive points and the German-Jamaican held his own against the great Rafa.

Off topic.

Does Nadal still do that ridiculous sprinting to the backcourt after the coin toss thing?

I feel like I never see that anymore.

He's too knackered now, but I think he does. He doesn't sprint around the dressing rooms any more though...

At the level that all profesional players are no one can't do any mistake (and less many) because they are not going to waste any opportunity and it become easier to be more aggressive due to the poor game of opponent.
Brown has played well but with the best help of his opponent, as clear as crystal :nono

Hey friend.

Maybe it was more novel to the TV audience at the time, but I could swear I saw that before every Nadal match in the mid 2000's.

This was self-evident, and admitted by DB in his impressive post-match interview: he was under absolutely no pressure at all. But that doesn't absolve Rafa - and I know you're not trying to. But still, Rafa should be controlling this kinda flakey bloke. Just when he got on top, he allowed Brown back in, and that's a dangerous thing to do. Feller trying everything to shorten points, taking wild swings and playing drop-shots from everywhere, Rafa needed to be much more consistent and grind him down, but he couldn't. Screw loose on the forehand, passing shots landing yards out - not inches - slow to read the dozens of dropshots.

Rafa isn't himself right now. He's got to face that, and keep working. He'll be back, but he's making heavy weather of it since he came back in January. Players get more nervous as they get older. We see that clearly with him, maybe because he's trying too hard to get back to speed...

Hey brother, love the moustache. :snicker

I think he still does that, I missed the very beginning today, but all the Iron Man rituals he used to do, like sprinting round the dressing before the match, he's cutting back on them. Getting too old! I don't think he cut that one out yet though. It's too public!

Dustin did not just defeat Rafa, twice in the match he physically hurt him as well.
In the first set, in set point Dustin took a heavy crack of Rafa's serve and Rafa could not
even get the racquet properly on to the ball and it hit him on the leg causing pain and
he had to take5 minutes off to recover from it.

In the fourth set again, the swinging volley got some skin off Rafa.

Both were unintentional though. But, this is what is called a beat down.

^^ Yeah, a couple of strange injuries that obviously cost him the match. Otherwise... :snicker
