Re hitting of outright winners, sure they can of course still be hit but the fact is only the ones that are hit with a bit more pop. Rosol's match comes to mind 'cos he was hitting 99mph backhands on occasion that day but even then he didn't obviously hit more than a handful that hard. But yet if the grass were faster, the standard shots would also fly through the court faster and not only ones hit that hard. Only citing that match 'cos I remembered that stat 'cos you don't hear too many 99mph backhands being hit but now as soon as the ball hits the grass the bounce is completely different than it used to be and hence how balls can be more easily tracked down.

^ Can't disagree that he's no Soderling as the number 4 ranking Soderling went on to achieve says it all as regards how he progressed and again, I don't expect Rosol to win simply 'cos he's completely inconsistent. There's a reason lower ranked players are ranked where they are 'cos they don't play many good matches. He served like junk in Dubai against Federer and the scoreline reflected that so he has to serve well to have a chance. If he does though and plays aggressively without blowing shots miles wide it'll be a tough match.

Mr Tented... What's Rafa's record in in a revenge type of scenario as this.. This is a tough one but I know you can do it:clap

We'll find out soon I guess. He had no revenge chance against Darcis and the Soderling example of revenge featured weather that completely favoured Nadal so it's impossible to gauge based on those two examples. He's only played Rosol once on grass so it's completely anyone's guess.

There are a few ways to interpret the "revenge" situation, depending on whether or not you mean the same tournament, or just the next time he played the same guy, regardless of location.

Here are examples (not meant to be comprehensive) where he won the next time he played someone at the same tournament.

Nope. Not before or after looking at those stats. I didn't manage to see Rafa's match. Not even highlights :(

That upset was helped along with rain delays and extending into the night, going under the roof 2 years ago! That wasn't Rosol's talent as much as Rafa's rotten attitude being put through such an ordeal! Poor baby! :laydownlaughing :snigger :lolz:

I don't remember any rain delays in that match. I don't see what you think was Rafa's "rotten attitude" either. However, two sets all, 45 minutes of light left, momentum to Nadal, and the chair umpire decided close the roof, which basically took 45 minutes. I think that was a bad call. No one says "poor baby," but the commentators at the time did agree it was a buzz-kill for Nadal.

^ No surprise there. Wafa proving once again it is a catastrophe he has managed to bite 2 of these trophies. I promise this will be one of the last times I bit** about the change in the grass this fortnight but it's clear for everyone to see how worthless he is on the "old grass" before it gets worn out to a ridiculous level.

If we combine you and Front together after Roland Garros 2014, you'd make a Cali.

Come On.. You know who he is referring to the King of Grass(slow).. the Dirt Devil himself:devil

He is no king of grass, but he has overachieved on the surface with some help from the organizers. I'd love to have the grass back to the 90's, good attacking tennis gets its reward.
Darth. My good fella, I did apply the caveat (slow) grass..nah, I like to see the points set up and constructed.. let's just leave the old days back in the past

He's not even close to being the king of that either. Bad enough he has 1 impenetrable domain. I know you liked the Pistol, surprised you are so against the good old days. Suppose it wouldn't fit well with your new adopted favorite

Something tells me you weren't complaining about slow grass in 2002-2007 quite as vociferously.

He may have complained in 2002, but definitely not from 2003-2007. But yeah, good point.

As I mentioned earlier, the mere fact that Frank Dancevic was able to beat Karlovic in straight sets just goes to show how slow the grass has become at Wimbledon.

Dancevic is a serve and volley player, which makes your argument kind of null. And using a Karlovic loss as a measure of anything other than him being an extremely limited player is silly.

Jeez, I wonder how players manage to hit winners on surfaces slower than grass. I mean if 99mph backhands aren't good enough on grass, I don't understand how we ever see winners hit on clay or slow hards. Puzzling.

Grass has been slowed down. But reading many of the posts, nobody has any idea what they're talking about when it comes to how the surface actually works (people have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to surfaces in general). It's nothing personal. After all, Mac once claimed that the US Open is faster than Wimbledon nowadays, which is pretty silly, and was debunked by both Federer and Nadal.
