If it happens it will probably communicated as a mutual agreement not to renew the contract.

But Becker was on a TV show in Germany yesterday where it didn't sound like he wants to give up coaching, so if they split it would probably be Novak's decision.

May be Jalena's.

Novak officially announced the mutual split with coach Boris Becker.

From Becker's recent interviews, I got the impression that he wanted to continue. So, essentially I think Jalena fired Boris.

Their partnership lasted for three years and resulted in six slam wins for Novak.

Now, Novak has Martin Vajdya and Peeping Tom, in his team. It does not look like he will add someone else soon. May be after six months or so.

It's just a guess, but I think Boris was a bad influence on Nole! Becker's reputation precedes him IMO and he may have contributed in some way to the drama behind the scenes! Something was obviously going on because Nole hasn't been himself in months! Probably just as well he was fired! He really needed the job too; pretty much blowing his money buying property he couldn't maintain and the divorce settlement after his cheating! :puzzled :nono  :cover

Who's Peeping Tom?

None of this is a surprise to anyone, least of all those of us who wondered what the feck Becker actually did for Novak, apart from give him a craving for illicit chocolate. ;)

But really, Boris, show some class and gratitude and STFU, please. Barely has it been announced and Becker is already spinning it:

"I think the last six months have been challenging on many levels. Our hands were tied a little bit because we couldn't do the work we wanted to do.

"He didn't spend as much time on the practice court in the last six months as he should have and he knows that.

"Success like this doesn't happen by pushing a button. Success like this doesn't just happen by showing up at a tournament. You have to work your bottom off because the opposition does the same."

STFU. :cover

"I don't know if he had any personal problems based on what I know," Becker said.

STFU. :cover

"But he has got to go back to work. He has to go back to the office and practice these hours and refocus on what made him strong in the first place."

ST-the actual-FU!

Who'd hire a jerk who's first action is to dash to the media and start blabbing like a newbie? Becker did well out of Novak, and Novak obviously felt that Boris wasn't the man to help him out of his current slump. Becker's reaction should have been a swift dose of introspection (I doubt he knows how) and two large sugar lumps of gratitude... :nono

Dude, Becker had his feelings bruised by getting dumped by Novak. Novak made 9/12 grand slam finals with Becker..that's amazing.. Men have feelings too:laydownlaughing

If Rafa had any common sense he should reach out to Boris immediately. Boris could fix his serve and provide the proper counters to be competitive against Novak.. (I know my brother Kieran from another mother across the seas will disagree but there's a lot of validity in my post)

Djoker announces that he is not looking for someone to replace Becker in his team. Vajda will be the sole coach of Novak for now. I don't whether Pepe Imaz has an official position in Nole's team. Does anyone know?

First McEnroe, now Becker? Man, are you kidding me? :laydownlaughing

I wouldn't let either of them near a beginners class...

Dude..I am serious..he needs something..he doesn't have the confidence to grind and hit deeper from the baseline to win a grandslam..you know this is true

I'm not sure Rafa can be "fixed." His game just relies too much on speed and athleticism and short of a magical elixir, he's not going to significantly improve over what we've seen in 2015. Sure, maybe some improvement with his serve would help, but not to the level of returning him to 2013 form.

But there is hope - he showed signs of life in 2015, was a bit more confident. I think the best we can hope for is a return to what we saw then, when he was more competitive in clay season. In other words, I could see Rafa returning to top 5 form, but probably not top 2.

He can improve..just like Murray and especially Novak..both have improved their serves..Rafa serves are less potent than Serena and about 5-8 WTA players.thats ridiculous..Rafa can shorten the rallies and take the net but not against Murray or Djokovic whose defense is just too good..Just like an NFL coach who will run the ball on 3 and 5..Rafa has been way too conservative..you know this..go back and watch the majority of his loses

OK, yes, but that still points to a top 5 ranking as being optimal, but not top 2. Lets say he improves his serve and shortens his rallies. First of all, he'll have to grow into this over a span of a few months as it is hard to retrain himself after 15 years of playing a certain style (think of Roger in late 2013). But as you say, he's not going to out-trick Andy and Novak so probably won't be able to break into the top 2. But 3-5? Sure, at least for a time. That body has seen some serious wear and tear.

Rafa can mix new and old tricks and go deep in tournaments. The field is weaker than ever even with up and coming players. These guys still don't have confidence. Rafa doesn't need to change his game totally rather he can tweak it to make it less conservative. He should try and get back his movement I don't know how but if he gets it back he can play more aggresively even hit less moonballs. Good game comes as a package. So, its needs to have good enough movement too IMO. But I don't see coming to the net often as a necessity. Not at all.

Even before 2017 began I thought it was a long shot that Nole would get to 17 or 18. Yes I'd say there's no chance for him to reach Roger.
