When it is all said and done both Nadal and Federer will both be in the Tennis Hall of Fame and go down as two of the greatest male tennis players ever to play the game. I think Daniil Medvedev said it best in his on court speech last night on how these kids can look at all of those highlights of Nadal’s GS championships and how he has been such a great ambassador for the sport or tennis. The same can be said for Roger Federer. In the end whoever has the most GS victories doesn’t really make then any better than the other because they are both fantastic players and both great for the game of tennis.

He's already said he wants to try and play till he's 40 which has already been mentioned so dream on. He's hopefully gonna be around another 2 full years. Let's be honest, both of them winning slams depends a lot on Djokovic so just be thankful for his injury and also Federer's injury here 'cos Nadal didn't play well enough to beat Roger here.

Oh please Rafa would have the slam record a long time ago if he didn’t have his own injuries throughout his career. The man barely played full seasons in his prime. He’s had 5 times more setbacks then Federer and Djokovic combined so if they are injured right now it’s simply things starting to even out.

Well, Roger wasn't playing well enough to beat Dimitrov here so there's that.

Did you miss the part where he hurt his upper back and neck and was never the same player afterwards? He was playing perfectly well enough till that happened.

At no point this tournament was Roger playing “perfectly well enough” unless you count his match against a handicapped Goffin.

And yes I actually did miss the part where he hurt his neck and back, as did all of us because he claimed it happened earlier that afternoon. So unless you were there, yeah we all missed it. Now we can choose to believe him or not, but you guys taught me to always doubt injuries and yell out “excuses!” At the top of my lungs so that’s what I’m doing.

Same old argument. This is a guy who can chase every ball and wear down opponents. Obviously that kind of play does affect the knees. He is so lucky that he has this resilience that allows him to play so physically without getting serious injuries and still remain fresher than his opponents.

“Lucky”...either that or he keeps himself in top shape.

Seriously? He was barely running down balls in set 5 and his serving was shit and clearly hampered.

Clearly he does keep himself in shape, considering his superior stamina. Keeping yourself in shape needs resilience because you have to do the hard yards. For most other players it is to physical to sustain.

I have thought for a fair while since about sept 2012 now that rafa will also finish with 17 majors like Federer, (unbelievable knee pain allowing, no ?)... but after federers Wimbledon final maybe he can sneak an 18th..

..so umm..if that's the case. erm, I cannot decide just now ..screw that, 17-17 it will be.

oh dear, look at me from way back in the semi old days. 17-17 ?...ah ha haaa I DON'T THINK SO.

maybe 20-20-20..or 21-21-21..or none of those. time to give up predictions.

Oh please... Look at how Raonic is always injured... injuries also had to do with luck not only style of play... Federer and Djokovic have been very lucky with injuries for 90% of their careers almost never missing slams... I can say that Federer hitting serves like that over and over should have injured his shoulder and back a long time ago... he was lucky not to. Anyways none of this matter as Nadal will go down as the clear goat despite his injuries...:smooch:

Most injuries have cause unless you trip over a black cat.

That's why most pros have sports scientists in their camps rather than gipsies reading tea leaves.

My prediction is he'll continue to go deep and put himself in a position to win some for at least next year. I just don't understand how he's not at worst, the second favorite at Wimbledon, and Novak on grass can be upset before the final. I mean the guy was literally a point away from winning Wimbledon this year so why are we talking like he's done? I don't think he wins the AO or obviously, the FO. But he'll be a contender at the former and depending how things play out, has a chance. If Wimbledon goes by and Roger is still stuck on 20 then we can revisit this because then I'd start to believe his window might be officially over.
I don't disagree with anything you say, but I don't see it coming to the full 7 matches win. But I've been wrong about Roger being done before. Darth thinks I say it just because I hate Roger or out of spite. It's not. It's just the way it looks to me. But sure, I'd be less shocked if Roger won another Wimbledon then, say, if Andy Murray did.

Considering Murray can barely beat challenger opponents right now I'd say that's pretty damn unlikely. He's done.

I think Rafa gets at least one more French, maybe two. So, I think he slides ahead of Federer now. Fed was a swing away from 21, but that's the way the ball bounces sometimes. Novak would appear to have multiple slams left. He appears to be able to outwarrior anyone when he needs to.

I think Rafa needs another non clay Major, and I can’t see “certainty” for now past the 2020 French Open. Taking nothing for granted.

I think it's Federer who needs another "clay" major more than Rafa needs anything. :bye:
