Carol, I'm not sure what sport you've been watching, but I don't think it is outrageous to think that Novak has a better chance of 6 more than Rafa does of 3 more. Don't forget that Rafa hasn't won a Slam in two years. And even more telling stat: Novak has won FIVE Slams since Rafa won his last.

Anyhow, if Rafa wins this French Open, his chances of winning a second go up substantially. If he doesn't win this one, then his chances of winning ANY more Slams drop precipitously. The FO will be a very, very important tournament for him.

Maybe for that reason I think Novak is not going to win too many any more. Remember, Rafa is not off, he still can do much better than he did (so badly) in the last AO and Novak sooner or later won't play so well or he will have more fight by his opponents and not just by Rafa, remember my words or maybe I will remind you......

Speaking of reminding you, you said repeatedly last year that Rafa merely had to tweak his serve and he would be back in the winner's circle, remember? Or that his confidence was building and his winning ways were upon us. Remember? So let's cut the BS. Being a fan is great; your level of passion is admirable. But please don't peddle BS and expect others to believe in what you are saying and sit by without comment.

Well lacatch, you have said well, being a fan (like you) and your level of passion is admirable too but maybe I have to remind you that Rafa played pretty well the last two months of 2015 and unfortunately not so well in the AO but it doesn't mean he won't to do well this year in spite of your bad predictions.
I don't expect that you and other believe me, what's the point? but you never know what is going to happen, many things can change, we have seen that many times before and we'll see again
And talking about BS........speechless

Being a fan like me of whom? I don't have blinders on and live in a fantasy world about one player as you do Rafa---so our approaches are not analogous.

Who you think has more passion and blindness, the one who constantly is saying negative comments about another player trying to praise his own fav or the one who simply has faith on his fav and waiting to see him playing his best again?
Like Sherlock Holmes would say "elementary mr. Watson, elementary" :p

Your post above just shows you don't read people's posts properly at all. lacatch doesn't idolize just one player like you do and that was the point being made. Also, saying true and honest things about your favorite player is not to praise our "favs" or to even be negative about Nadal, we are simply stating the truth as are all the people out there who actually see what's going on. Nadal is not as good before and I'm not even gonna bother listing the reasons why because myself and others have gone over it too many times already but each time you just accuse us of being detractors or reply with silly insults when we're merely saying why he's not winning anymore. Classy.

Another one.....'birds of a feather flock together'
And hey, I NEVER insult to anyone like you usually do to the players making fake accusations and not just through this blog but also in others too talking repeatedly about the "egg machine" that Novak uses and blah blah blah and all those silly comments just because they have beaten your fav? come on! and also insulting us when we defend them? look at you in the mirror and talk later

This subject was actual and interesting when the thread was opened in Jul 2014, right after Rafa won his last slam. Back then even Darthfed was saying "no doubt Rafa hits 17 slams":snicker
Rafa was just slightly behind Roger to be on track age wise.
Now, after 7 slams went by, since Rafa's count came to a halt, it is useless to talk about this subject, until he wins another one.

Even as a Nadal fan, I've always thought it will be extremely hard for Nadal to surpass Federer in the Slam count. The reason for it is that it is really hard to win Slams. You need skills and some luck in order to win a lot of Grand Slams. Also, I always believe in sports that the closer an athlete to a major record, the harder for that player to achieve that record.

In addition, even after that amazing 2010 year, Nadal was still 7 Slams away from tying Federer. So that alone made me skeptical that he could surpass Federer. And this is before Djokovic became an all-time great.

All in all, I think Nadal catching and surpassing Federer is gone now. The only wish I have right now as a Nadal is to win one more slam so he can surpass Sampras and become number 2 in Slam count.

Given what happened to Rafa in 2014, it became useless to think he'd get three more slams. He was lucky in the French that year to close it out in four, because he looked incapable of playing a fifth. And since he returned last January, we're talking about a man being a shadow of the great player he once was. He's looking like what he is: a veteran, with a billion miles on the clock.

For me, I'd like him to win one more, away from Paris, and maybe give us a few more great matches with his rivals. Can only hope, that's all!

Well, to say we "can only hope" is to say we don't give up! ;)

Time to bump this thread.

It is tempting to say time to close this thread also. But, Vamos is likely to take back RG and bring it back to staus quo.

Well, nobody (except a brave few which includes me) gave a chance to Federer on this one, so we should count Nadal out. Almost impossible task, I agree, but those guys are almost unreal too.

Not so sure about that. Andy and Novak will surely be trying to make up for this tournament's early losses and Nadal will face huge pressure. A lot can happen before May/June too.

Even if Nadal won the Australian Open, I didn't think he would have catch Federer in the slams title count

True enough, but the detractors would have more ammunition to troll! Rafa does still own Roger lock, stock, & barrel in the head to head! :nono  :dodgy: :cover

As they're both older now, Roger will definitely salvage some more wins. Always maintained that and stand by it. A huge portion were on clay too as everyone knows. Give me RoboRoger and his bionic knee on grass or fast hardcourt from here on out and I'd back Roger much more than in the past.
