I'll join Tsitsipas camp. It looks like he could scrape more points throughout the year than Thiem, but I'd love to see Thiem more consistent on HC and indoors. I like them both actually.

Sadly but I have to say the Austrian German.

If Medvedev wins a big title (master) this season, I will dispatch Tsitsipas and replace him with Daniil.

I'm sticking with Medvedev. Very impressive consistency 3 tournaments in a row now.

He would need to show more consistency across all surfaces, IMO, before I’d bet on him.

We'll see who's right I guess. 7 for shittypants and 1 (me) for Medvedev :p

PS: just kidding with the nickname for Tsitsipas. Quite like him actually. I just call him that sometimes when he plays crap.

For what's it worth, currently Medvedev has leapfrogged Tsitsipas and is 7 in live rankings and dropped Tsitsipas back to 8. Can see him getting ahead of Nishikori and Zverev pretty soon too.

Nadal will get it next,

then he will retire with the slam record,

and then it will be Medvedev...

I still think Auger Aliassime has a lot of potential to eventually become no.1,

but it will be a few years from now as he is still very young...

I said earlier today, I will replace Tsitsipas with Medvedev if he wins a master soon. Tomorrow is a good chance for that to come true.

Waiting for the results tomorrow, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there is a bit of a band-wagon on Medvedev. I still like Tsitsipas, Khachanov and Thiem better, for the big results.

Well, three straight finals are reason enough for a band-wagon... and as posters have put above, consistency is big part of being #1. But it is not like it is the first time that Medvedev is in the conversation... he was having some good results in the beginning of the year... if we read back people were touting him back then as one of the most promising young players.

Just checked and it is his sixth final of the year I believe. Really not bad.

Exactly and not only 3 finals as that could indicate some mickey mouse ones. Quite the opposite. 1 x 500 final and 2 x masters 1000 finals consecutively. Very impressive. I don't mind Goffin at all but hoping Medvedev wins this one and gets up to number 5 in the rankings. Ahead of Zverev and Nishikori.

I am hoping for Medvedev, but I fear he could end up like the other rising stars we have seen in recent years.

Fair enough. I had forgotten already that he was the finalist in DC, too. Still, as @atttomole pointed out above, we have yet to see how long this lasts. I will say that he's demonstrated a lot more calm of late, (the cracked racquet at the end today notwithstanding,) which has served him well of late, and got him a MS1000. Also, I watched his SF v. Novak earlier...he played some bold tennis to get that win. Novak didn't really play too badly at all.

He needs to avoid King Nadal, but otherwise he should be able to beat everyone else...
