Too many folks writing off Nadal too soon. He will come back and compete at the highest levels--mark those words. I still think he bags another title in Paris. Do I think he wins SW19 or the US Open again? I would not bet on that, but Paris is one he can transition into next year. Give him some confidence-building victories on the clay and watch out.

Actually I think Nadal should retire. He is not able to win 500, MS and GS any more. He barely can run, he has forgot to play and even he is playing with a lot of confidence he can't make it. The athletes don't have the right to play bad, they always have to play well, otherwise they are not good anymore and they never will. If I were him, I wouldn't waste the time anymore, I would work in something else or just playing golf which is very relaxed.
By the way, he has never been injured and either out of the court for months, he never has missed GS and MS, therefore he doesn't have any reason to lose the confidence, it would be silly

Is this another Anti-Pusher style post, telling us you're giving up on Rafa? :laydownlaughing

Sometimes they don't even have a choice in the matter... :popcorn

It was just to give a little hope to some :p

I don't know. I thought Nadal would have done much better on his beloved Paris clay.

So you thought he'll beat Novak?

Rafa's a shell of his old self and he should be embarrassed of his results! If he wins anything, it'll be on clay! The HC season has rarely been a refuge for this man and I can't see it changing now in the doldrums of the way he's playing at this time! :cover :puzzled :nono  :dodgy:

This is just silly. Rafa shouldn't be embarrassed. I am pretty indifferent about wanting him to return to better form, and I don't like him, but he should not be embarrassed about anything. I feel the same way about this attitude towards Hewitt (although they are obviously in super different positions). It must be scary to face the beginning of the end of your career in your late 20s. I am still in the beginning of my career and 28, and I can't imagine being in Rafa's position.

That being said. Last time I checked this thread was about Novak... ;)

If the draw is like last year then sure, he can win it. As bad as he's been, he's still been the 8th best player on tour this year, according to the Race to London rankings. I like his odds of winning Hamburg against the likes of Ferrer, Fognini, and Robredo.

He would definitely be the favorite, but it wouldn't be a guarantee like the past.

Whether Rafa wins Hamburg or not, we should remember that he has nothing to defend in Hamburg, Canada and Cincy. So, Rafa is virtually guaranteed of boosting his ranking to top 8 (from his current ranking of 10) before USO and so is virtually assured of a better seeding than at Wimbledon (but, it may not be enough as he had a top 8 seeding at RG as well; he would need to face Novak, Fed, Andy or Man in QF and a win over any of them does not look like a reasonable prospect). Getting to top 4 before USO is possible but not probable.

I know but I'm tired to read that his injuries and lack of confidence are "excuses" but if their fav would have some discomfort or injury then it would be a diferent story :nono
I don't like Novak either but as a good tennis follower I rather that he and the others top players are playing well because i like to see a good competition and rivalry between them, otherwise it would be boring.
And yes, tennis needs Nadal, Federer, Muzz, Novak , Kei, Delpo ( I don't see too much future on this last one) and others playing well and fitted and also to see new promises though sincerely I don't see any right now :puzzled

I haven't posted here for some time because of the current state of our BELOVED tour, but to start talking about Nadal winning a GS? Really guys and gals, has it come to this? :D Of all the folks here I think Broken has covered this topic so many times, he must feel sick at the mere thought of it.
In other TF news: Billie is alive ( I have seen her post in some thread), since many have expressed their concern after the FO final, and regardless of what happened, I somehow feel her pain. Reading some threads here has become torture, for me atleast. Hurray for the NA masters...

Rafa has said (smiling) during the press conference in Hamburg: "I'm playing here because I lost more matches in the last 6 months than in the last 10 years. My body asked for more matches"
Yep! :cover :s

More reasons than you're stating! It pretty much shows how deficient he is intellectually! He was about 15, thrown on the circuit and couldn't have gotten much of an education! Most players speak many languages and he doesn't seem to put forth any effort with the universal ENGLISH all pros use! Talk about brainwashed and protected! They could have afforded a tutor I'm sure! :cover :puzzled :nono  :dodgy:

I've often wondered the same thing about Rafa's inability to speak good English, and I'm not just referring to his accent. Others started on the tour at a similar age, yet speak many languages fluently (Roger speaks German, French and English among others, while Nole speaks Serbian, English, Italian, French, and I believe some Mandarin). Not sure whether Rafa simply doesn't care about bringing his English to fluency, or perhaps doesn't have the capacity to learn it better (which isn't meant as an insult---he just may not have an aptitude for learning languages).

I don't think his English is that bad. But he was surrounded by a fleet of Spanish players on the tour so that may have something to do with it. The others may have had to adapt a bit more than Nadal did in that department. Just a theory. Who knows.

First at all Nadal talks three diferent languages, of course the English with Spanish accent like more of the Spaniards we do. To talk four or five diferent languages doesn't make the person to be more intellectual or intelligent. My neighbor talks 5 diferent languages because he has lived in three diferent countries and his parents also are from two diferent countries and he is completely stupid.
And tell me now what players seems to be more intelligent than him because maybe they talk just one more language than him or because they try hardly to learn more ( depending where are playing trying to learn ten words to say thanks if they win the tournament lol) or maybe because they live in a country where they talk German, English and French (then easier to learn) or they live in a another country where they talk diferent language?
Nadal has lived in Mallorca for 29 years where they talk two different languages and just traveling all around the world he also has learned the English and I think pretty well, so what's your point mr. Sheakspeare? :nono :cover

Well at least it isn't just me! I figured "the slings and arrows" would rain down on me for being so provocative! It was just an observation! :nono  - I already hit him a few years ago for his self-serving propositions while on the council for the ATP concerning the rankings and schedule! Thank Gawd Roger was President at the time and smacked every one of them down! Nadal actually stormed off eventually! :snicker :laydownlaughing  :dodgy:

Yes! I remember that guy! He had a Swedish-Georgia accent. Very cool.
