If the draw is like last year then sure, he can win it. As bad as he's been, he's still been the 8th best player on tour this year, according to the Race to London rankings. I like his odds of winning Hamburg against the likes of Ferrer, Fognini, and Robredo.

He would definitely be the favorite, but it wouldn't be a guarantee like the past.

I don't know if he'll win if he had to face the Fog. Fog is definitely in his head a bit.

I don't know. I thought Nadal would have done much better on his beloved Paris clay. Maybe he wins in Hamburg, maybe he needs a bit more time to start winning tournaments again. I guess we'll see soon enough.

I'm going with Hambourg

Since Nadalites are keeping quiet, let me come to defense here.

There seems to be a tacit assumption here that Rafa has not won a tourney for a long time. That is just not true. He won Stuttgart tourney hardly six weeks ago. There are just a handful of players who have won a tourney that recently.

The real question should be when will Rafa win another GS.

Rafa's a shell of his old self and he should be embarrassed of his results! If he wins anything, it'll be on clay! The HC season has rarely been a refuge for this man and I can't see it changing now in the doldrums of the way he's playing at this time! :cover :puzzled :nono  :dodgy:

I suppose we're quiet because there's been so many of the same kind of gloating threads, suggesting he's finished and wanting to pick over his bones. I don't accept this premise, so what would be a decent reply?

Q: When will Rafa win his next tourney?

A: On a Sunday.

As for when he'll win a GS, or MS title again, we can ask that about everybody. I've watched tennis long enough to know that just because somebody is a current title holder doesn't mean they'll even be playing the sport in two months time, let alone winning anything of note. Will Rafa win the US open, or a Masters series title this year? Not the way he's playing. But he won't be playing the way he's playing forever...

Winning a smaller events will not solve his current problems, as we have seen, after he won Stuttgart he lost right away in R1 and R2 in the following events.
That is why I am not buying into the "lack of confidence" explanations.

"Lack of confidence" has now replaced the "is he injured?" rhetoric.

Actually I think Nadal should retire. He is not able to win 500, MS and GS any more. He barely can run, he has forgot to play and even he is playing with a lot of confidence he can't make it. The athletes don't have the right to play bad, they always have to play well, otherwise they are not good anymore and they never will. If I were him, I wouldn't waste the time anymore, I would work in something else or just playing golf which is very relaxed.
By the way, he has never been injured and either out of the court for months, he never has missed GS and MS, therefore he doesn't have any reason to lose the confidence, it would be silly

Is this another Anti-Pusher style post, telling us you're giving up on Rafa? :laydownlaughing

"The athletes don't have the right to play bad."

Sometimes they don't even have a choice in the matter... :popcorn

I guess it's a little bit too soon to retire but he said 2016 OG would be the last ones for him so I guess he'll say Goodbye between 2017 and the beginning of 2020

You think over a year of not winning anything of note, struggling with form, getting injured, losing the tournament you've always dominated, not finding your game, etc... has no effect on someone's confidence? And you think winning Stuttgart should have solved confidence issues a week after losing at Roland Garros? I disagree entirely.

Comparing lack of confidence to injury excuses is odd, to put it politely. Injury excuses can often be based on nothing but theories. Lack of confidence isn't. Nadal himself admitted to it, and logic dictates that when you lose, and lose repeatedly, your confidence will be shaken. There's no way to seriously compare the two. But, in order not to be accused by anyone of "ripping you a new one" when I'm merely disagreeing, let's have a meaningful conversation... Since lack of confidence in your mind does not justify Nadal's results (in my mind, it partially does), what do you think Nadal's issues are?
