Curiously, the Yes side is gathering momentum in the campaign for Scottish independence - and the No side are getting a little snippy and desperate. Her Majesty might even be brought on as a sub...

The Queen will not get involved but I would imagine she's pretty saddened by it all. The Better Together campaign have been too complacent and allowed the YES campaign to gather pace.

I don't believe independence is best for Scotland. That is why when I sent my postal vote away a few weeks ago it was a NO vote.

I can only hope and pray that the NO voters prevail. I still want to be British in 9 days time. I loath Mr Salmond and his party with a passion.

The division this has caused in Scotland is like nothing I have ever seen and it really does sadden me.

I get the feeling they'll flirt with it, Iona, but at the ballot box it'll be defeated.

But the same option may come around again and succeed, because once it's been floated and taken seriously, it registers in peoples minds...

I am not living in Scotland so I do not know details but from what I have read in the last couple of months, seems like Scottish people (well, some) feel like they are under represented and they feel they can run their economy better if they were independent. I personally am not too sure about that. We have a similar issue here every now and then when Quebec wants to separate from Canada...we had a couple of referendums and at the end it was always for staying a part of Canada. Because I think it is the safe choice. I think Scots will eventually vote to stay with GB as well. There is safety there as well, as opposed to diving into the unknown.

The thing in Europe as well is, there's no real independence once you've joined the EU. Sovereignty is at stake. In Ireland, our government submits its budgets to Brussels (Berlin) for approval: we elect, but they don't serve us, they serve their masters in Europe.

It's actually designed this way, and it's frightening...

After the new rankings came out on Sep. 9th, the Queen has said the Scots can leave UK and she would have no problem with it. :laydownlaughing

Very true. I think this is why there has been a massive backlash towards multiculturalism in Europe, and why nationalism is on the rise. The EU is a superstructure that overrides sovereignty - essentially, Europe is becoming very 'borderless', and the traditional workings of a nation-state, as we understand it, is changing drastically.

Yes, bring out an English footballer. Oh dear god.

I'd be really disheartened to think anybody would vote based on what a celebrity had to say. I don't care what side they're on.

I've been really riled by the celebrity Scots now based in America and with American citizenship telling me how I should vote. Sean Connery didn't make it over though. Obviously too busy in the Bahamas.

Andy can't vote as he is not resident in Scotland. I've seen the tweet. It will need some clarifying. If he is for YES then I think he's a blooming fool. There will be a backlash for him. He will have upset a lot of Scots as well as English supporters. I hope he's prepared for it. He should have kept out of it as he has NO idea what it has been like living in Scotland.

He can vote whichever way he feels like; but, should have been wise enough not to
say anything about it publicly.

Whatever the right or wrong, he has a point about the No campaign and its negativity: threats, whimpering, more threats, it would get my back up, too.

Of course, then on Yes side, there are threats of violence, hype, actual violence. It's been a nasty and divisive campaign... :nono

Andy Murray Says 'Yes' on Scotland D-Day

He’s been sitting on the fence for months, if not years, but Britain’s top tennis player now says he supports independence for Scotland. Andy Murray sent a tweet out to his 2.7 million followers that could well sway some undecided voters as Scots go to the polls today to decide whether to quit the United Kingdom after 300 years. Murray, who has won both the Wimbledon and U.S. Open tennis majors but has been struggling this year, attributed his decision to “no negativity,” which “totally swayed my view on it.” He added, “lets [sic] do this!” It’s not clear what, if anything, his stance will do to his relationship with longtime girlfriend Kim Sears... who is English.

The thing is, Murray seems to be basing his vote on his resistance to the manner of the No campaign, and not on the content of the Yes campaign, which is irresponsible and immature...

yes it seems to have been very lively in recent weeks..some folk getting a bit over excited.

does murray still have property that could technically qualify as "a home" and thus allowing him a vote ?, he has his recently bought hotel, anything else ?, is his mums home in his name ?, a little cottage somewhere ?.
