The qualification draw is stuck with good players. Top guys seeded:
Paire
Johnson
Pospisil
Kukushkin

Kukushkin lost in the first round to Youzhny.
Young American WC Tafoe and Kozlov also lost.

Here are those who will play today in the second round for a spot in the main draw:
Zverev - Istomin
Giraldo - Dolgopolov
Ilhan - Kokkinakis
Youzhny - Lu
Pospisil - Chung
Johnson - Mahut
Paire - Kudla

It is sad, but a wise move. In 2009, some player decided to drop out of Cincy to make sure their physical condition is good for USO and reaped huge rewards. That player won the Washington that year and reached the finals in Canada.

Since the schedule for Monday is not yet released, expect Cincy Officials to rebalance the draw.
This will involve moving Milos to Kei's position and then moving Thiem to Milos's position and then
inserting a lucky loser in Thiem's position.

EDIT: I thought the main tourney starts only tomorrow. But, that is not the case. They have already played some main draw matches today. In fact, Thiem had lost to Klizan. So, there will not be any draw rebalancing.

Bummer! Hope he'll be okay for the US Open.

Tricky schedueling for him in general. Clearly he needs to take it much easier than others, but he can't do the Novak thing just yet.

Murray's win at Montreal means that Fed should do the following in order to retain #2 seed at USO.

a. If Murray reaches SF at Cincy, Fed should win Cincy outright. Merely beating Murray at SF would not do.

b. If Murray falls at QF or earlier at Cincy, Fed needs to reach the final at Cincy. Merely doing one round better than Murray would not do.

The quals are over. The qualifiers are

1. Kudla
2. Popsicle
3. Kokk
4. Zevrev
5. Y, Lu
6. N. Mahut
7. Dog.

p.s. One of the losers also will get in due to Kei's exit.

It will be interesting on how Djokovic and Murray will play in Cincy next week after a grueling match and tournament from both players. Also, hopefully Nishikori will be enough to compete at a high level at the US Open. The good thing is he has a large enough lead over Wawrinka at the number 4 spot which means he will most likely be seeded 4 at the US Open.

Poor Kei stands to lose a lot of points at the USO if this injury persists. Can't see him making the final again for one thing so that's a truck load of points gone right there. Hopefully he can win a few matches at Cinci anyway.

There's Kei, Cilic and Federer all defending a stack of points in the coming weeks. Be interesting to see, but I'm sure both Kei and Cilic will fall well short of last year...

So far one main draw match is over. Klizan defeated Thiem. There is just one more main draw match scheduled today. That is going on right now. Grigor leading Rosol 4-0 in the first set.

So, Thiem won two 250 tourneys and reached the finals of third 50 in three consecutive weeks. Then he gets kicked in the first round of both the 1000 Masters in NA. Since he is now in top 20, he should pay more attention to his scheduling.

The lucky loser is Benoit Paire. However, as they did not yet place the qualifiers in the draw, the 7 qualifiers and the lucky loser were randomly placed in the 8 spots. Dog got lucky and ended in the coveted #4 seed spot of Kei.

Thiem seems to me to be developing into a clay specialist. His results there are much better than on HC. He would not be the first Austrian to do so.

We can't count the chickens before they are hatched. After Muzz lost in the second round in Washington and Nishi winning the tournament not too many people had bet for Muzz in Montreal.
Cincinnati could bring us more than one surprise, and the USO? depending what we'll see in Cinci but even that I don't see it so clear. Things change too fast sometimes, the players game and results too

Ah. Doh. Still though, I doubt he'll go too deep at the USO either unfortunately the way things have been so far if he's feeling bad after just best of 3 matches.
