Either way, Federer and Nadal are immensely fortunate that Nalbandian wasn't healthy and relevant more often. This era would have looked completely different.

Nalbandian was just as solid in rallies as Nadal, but a much more effortless and natural offensive shotmaker. Nalbandian also was just as good of a shotmaker as Federer, except that his BH side wasn't weak like Federer's and he could last much better in long rallies. Plus, Nalbandian was a more talented volleyer than both.

Nalbandian could do just as much damage off the forehand as both of them, but with a backhand that was even better. Smh, truly smh

Well, weird just got weirder...

This is a little bit of metaphysical karma to Federer and Nadal for the most talented player of this generation being injured constantly, with something like 7 surgeries in 5 years. They were lucky he wasn't around more, not to mention that he never came close to maximizing his potential when he was on the court.

I guess that the truth is funny, just like my post in the summer of 2012 that infuriated you when I asked "what has Federer really accomplished?" and talked about how much of a joke his performance against Nadal has been.

Yes I vaguely remember that weird post. Federer is a joke vs. Rafa and it is a strike vs. him that is undeniable. But needless to say he has accomplished a lot. That said, I wish and think it should have been more and Rafa may yet pass him.

Well, I actually watched his matches, even when they were first-rounders at 250 events. So there were a lot of shots that I saw that you probably didn't.

What has Nalbandian ever done when he was healthy in slams? Other than lose to Marcus Baghdatis I mean...

Well, I guess the first slam of the year is over so business as usual. 52 threads about Nalbandian await our collective impending doom :D

Much more than Wawrinka had before this event. Semis of all 4 Slams.

Should have beaten Federer at the 2006 French Open with his supposedly sublime level of 2006.

Nalbandian has owned every one of the top players except Djokovic at the high points of their careers. When it comes to shear talent, he is on another level.

Good on him. Still did nothing in slams when healthy, as far as actual results go. I'm sure he would have troubled Federer and Nadal if he'd played them more -- he almost always does. That's the extent of it, though.

Oh I remember that pearl of wisdom well.

Watch his 2009 IW match with Nadal and tell me that Nadal was a better mover, by more than a negligible .000001%.

Watch Nalbandian's 2008 Bercy match against Murray with long rallies, when Murray was #2 and riding a 14-match win streak and had just beaten Nadal at the US Open in a grueling 4-set rally war.

Then tell me Nalbandian couldn't move as well as those guys. Please.

Djokovic is obviously more elastic and longer, but does he have more explosive burst than Nalbandian? No way.

I'm not the one who says that Federer is playing "horrible" every time he loses 2 games.

Actually since Stan has now jumped over "another Swiss player" in the rankings I'm not so sure if his fans are really all that happy?

Oh, they're happy. Whenever Rafa gets injured, Roger's legacy hears ker-ching. They're very happy today, and who can blame them... ;)

I'm not happy about Rafa getting hurt K.

Just means if Rafa ends up not passing Feds slam mark, I'll never hear the end of "Yeah but if he had never been hurt he would have had 30 Slams!"

Apparently you missed the post Fedal match thread with the various calculations of how Roger would rightly have had 25. That one cuts both ways. ;)

This was an upside down finish to a crazy two weeks full of surprises and upsets (outside of the Fedal semi). On both the mens and women's sides, Oz 2014 was anything but predictable.

Last year's Wimbledon, and this year's AO were the oddest two Majors in recent memory, that's for sure.

Wimbledon was far from the norm last year, too, except that the mens final feature the top 2 seeds. I guess we should imagine it will happen more often, now.
