I had $1,000 on Rafa to win AO before the semi at -110 so I would have had a little over $1,900 if he had won vs. the $0 now.

Next time GB makes a Super Bowl I will likely have 5 grand or more on the other team and hope I'm a poor man afterwards!

Ah, still better than losing $2000. I know potentially that was close to the return you'd get but at least your stake was $1000 and not $2000.

This is a little bit of metaphysical karma to Federer and Nadal for the most talented player of this generation being injured constantly, with something like 7 surgeries in 5 years. They were lucky he wasn't around more, not to mention that he never came close to maximizing his potential when he was on the court.

I know. I wish Tommy Haas hadn't crashed out early too.

Well, I wouldn't call winning 13 slams not maximising his potential, but I agree: without injuries Rafa might be on about 17.

I don't think he ever had surgery though... ;)

Hope he still has a decent year but one of these days it will just likely be all she wrote and he will play like he's 35 going on 36.

Without numerous breakdowns from Djokovic and Federer in big matches (see last year's US Open, 2009 AO, etc.) Nadal would be nowhere near 13.

That's why they're called "matches", brother - you match up against your opponent. If Rafa tends to win them, then you oughta should congratulate him, no? ;) You certainly don't mind when he plays like he did when he lost matches...

I guess that the truth is funny, just like my post in the summer of 2012 that infuriated you when I asked "what has Federer really accomplished?" and talked about how much of a joke his performance against Nadal has been.

Yup. I'm sure he'll still do pretty well in best of 3 but his slam days may be numbered already.

I know you meant Nalbandian :p I too wish he'd fared better. MUCH better. He may even have won today from 2-0 in the 2nd set. Dodgy back versus dodgy hips and shoulders. Would've been some laugh.

The difference between his wins and losses, however, being the level of his opponent much more than his own.

Yes I vaguely remember that weird post. Federer is a joke vs. Rafa and it is a strike vs. him that is undeniable. But needless to say he has accomplished a lot. That said, I wish and think it should have been more and Rafa may yet pass him.

Either way, Federer and Nadal are immensely fortunate that Nalbandian wasn't healthy and relevant more often. This era would have looked completely different.

Nalbandian was just as solid in rallies as Nadal, but a much more effortless and natural offensive shotmaker. Nalbandian also was just as good of a shotmaker as Federer, except that his BH side wasn't weak like Federer's and he could last much better in long rallies. Plus, Nalbandian was a more talented volleyer than both.

Nalbandian could do just as much damage off the forehand as both of them, but with a backhand that was even better. Smh, truly smh
