I am now officially afraid for Jannik Sinner psyche if he loses this match. This will definitely be a worse loss than he suffered at Wimbledon.

I am rooting for Sinner because he is my new favorite player (Alcaraz is 2nd). I don’t care if Alcaraz or Ruud become number 1 because Nadal didn’t play/win enough matches outside of Slams to get the number 1 ranking.
I get that. I like Sinner, too. I have Alcaraz my next new fave with maybe Sinner my one after that. Small margins. I guess I want the next great teenager. Plus, Alcaraz is just got more fire in the belly to me. I'll be OK, either way, but really sleepy tomorrow. :sleep2:

Of the things I'm hoping for Nadal for the rest of his career, weeks at #1 is the least of them. Give me a couple more Slams, and I'd be happy with that. Plus, who's going to be YE#1?

Sure slams will always be by far the most important but since the no.1 ranking could be his in a few days of course I’m wishing that it would happen. It’s not only about a few additional weeks at number one but also the fact that he would be number one at 36 years old which is epic. If Nadal plays some tournaments after the U.S. Open, since he has zero points to defend he has a good shot at YE#1 too.

He'll recover. He may in this match. Either way, he's young. He might have lost this one in straights.

Yes, it would be a bonus, but since he's not here to grab it, I'm not going to root against a player I like for the sake of it.

I don’t know I think Nadal left the impression from his presser that it could be a minute before we see him on a court again. He was serving an uncharacteristic number of doubles, so he may not have fully recovered from his abdominal issues and his wife is due to give birth soon. He did say there are more important things than tennis, so I’m thinking he isn’t thinking about number 1 at the moment or how to keep it.

You are correct, Moxie. But you never know with human psyche especially at sports. A huge win can definitely lift your career up, but two devastating losses can bring your career down or mojo.

Two homework assignments for the kiddos. Sinner needs to work on that embarrassment of a serve. It’s hard to believe that he has been a top 10 player with it. Alcaraz needs to work on not immediately gifting back what players give him.

Oh trust me, for a guy his size, his serve is laughable. Casper who is 6 feet can hit bigger serves than Sinner, I am not being sarcastic either.

Such a long dramatic match that hopefully Sinner won’t choke away because it will be devastating for him mentally.

Sinner had a 40-15 lead and couldn’t consolidate the lead. I don’t know how he can win this match now, seriously.
