So who is rooting for Sinner, and who is rooting against Alcaraz for the Nadal #1? I haven't sorted out how that works yet, mathematically, but I like Alcaraz for Alcaraz, and not for Rafa's #1, just to be clear. (I also like Sinner, but my pick for the title is still Charlie.)
I am rooting for Sinner because he is my new favorite player (Alcaraz is 2nd). I don’t care if Alcaraz or Ruud become number 1 because Nadal didn’t play/win enough matches outside of Slams to get the number 1 ranking.

Apparently if only one of Ruud and Alcaraz makes the final, that person becomes #1

If both in final, winner gets #1

Alcaraz just hit a home run ball in anger out of the stadium, he is definitely not the next Nadal. :thumbs-down:

If you are Sinner here, you got to win the match now one way or the other. If you lose the match after having a MP on your own serve, that could change some psyche in the future.

If either Alcaraz or Ruud reach the final they are no.1. Basically if Alcaraz loses today then we’d only need to worry about Ruud and hope that Khachanov will beat him in the SF. To me both Sinner and Alcaraz are likeable but in this particular instance I’d rather Sinner to win.
Of the things I'm hoping for Nadal for the rest of his career, weeks at #1 is the least of them. Give me a couple more Slams, and I'd be happy with that. Plus, who's going to be YE#1?

It’s sad to see Sinner choke like that. His level is unbelievable but his mental strength is just not there. Whenever he feels that he is about to win an important match he starts making stupid easy mistakes. This could end up being a worse choke than the one against Djokovic at Wimbledon.
