Oh, for crying out loud. Come on Tsonga. This has to be an alien posing as Cilic. The man has never even made a single Masters 1000 semifinal, not a one, but suddenly he goes into God-mode at the US Open.

Bizarre to say the least.

Yeah, I much prefer Cilic to the Frenchman, who goes AWOL in slams when the matches get a bit sweaty...

So do I. And the more bashing he gets on this forum, the more I feel to root for him.

Not without reason. Here he is warming up before the match.

Most of the bashing he gets on the forum are from those who don't buy his mommy prescriptions BS. If you don't buy it then you probably feel that Cough Drop shouldn't even be allowed on the tour right now.

Actually there is a reason why Cilic has a winning record against Tsonga. JW said he is uncomfortable playing him, and he does not like this match up.
And also, JWT for some reason was never beyond the QF in this slam, being his weakest, statistically.

I know that. I am one of the people who believes in that people can make mistake and should be given a second chance. In life, things are not just black and white.

Federer bought it, Steve Tignor bought it.

Tennis-wise, he's much more easy on the eye than JW, and also has a more suited temperament for big matches. He'll be a respectable opponent for Novak in the semis, but I don't expect him to win there...

It's weird just how abysmal cilic masters record is, not even a semi. outside the U.S. open I can really only remember him doing well on grass and he made the semis at the AO 2010.

So you believe his story?

I don't believe that these things are all as simple as saying that what Cilic did is the same as Justin gatlin, for example. Federer believes him - does that make a difference to you?

Agreed cilic is the tougher opponent, but should be ok, unless cilic has another insane serving day like last years semi and final.

Wouldn't surprise me to be honest. Cilic isn't playing as well as last year but he's playing better each round and maybe peaking at the right time. He could be an animal next round which is bad for everyone and especially the sport of tennis as a whole given the black cloud over him last year. To repeat that would be curtains for the sport for many.

I think his upper-limit this year is the semi. last year he just caught fire and probably couldn't stop himself. This year, he's not going to surprise anyone, and Novak has a good record against him too...

EDIT: But Novak WILL be hoping that Tsonga turns this one around, in a long bloodbath struggle...
