I recently subscribed to The Atlantic. It has an interesting group of writers, with different viewpoints. It’s an intelligent magazine. Reading this reminds me it was worth subscribing.

Yeah, exactly what this is all about. None of these people were as giddy during the swine flu epidemic of 2009. They were actually cautioning calm. Way to show what this is really about for you Federberg, you fucking idiot.

Fox News eh? :face-with-tears-of-joy::face-with-tears-of-joy: Where do they fit into @calitennis127's grand conspiracy theories?

Actually, I think Fox News has been totally irresponsible throughout this mania. Tucker Carlson in particular has hyped the coronavirus story excessively. He is doing this because he is a populist conservative with antipathy toward the corporate leaders who have sold off large parts of the American economy to China. He also thinks China (not Russia) is the U.S.'s main geopolitical threat. So he is going completely overboard in hyping up the danger of the coronavirus.

You should try watching some Fox News before running your mouth about it Britbox. You're going off the lazy stereotypes of some doofus like Federberg who knows as much about the U.S. as a turd on the ground.

I've seen plenty of Fox News over time, thanks. Although, I haven't been watching much recently, granted.

I used to quite like Tucker Carlson's slot and think Chris Wallace is generally OK, but morons like Hannity and O'Reilly belong in the same bin as their oppos like Maddow (MSNBC) and Chris Cuomo of CNN.

You're running out of messengers to shoot in your Corona-denial, Even Trump's flipped from calling it a hoax to a national emergency.

Also, what does it say about this pandemic (assuming that the likes of Federberg are right that there are hundreds of thousands who have the virus but not have been diagnosed yet) that people are going about their lives normally without even knowing they have it? Shouldn't they all be dropping dead with hives like the Black Plague is hitting them if it so bad?

Dude, someone really needs to teach you a logical fallacy course. This is a ridiculous straw-man.

Also, really nice to see you tap-dancing around criticizing Trump when he's been nothing short of incompetent on this. Here comes "brainwashed," "CNN" and "New York Times" in 3...2..1...

There is a space between "casual" and shutting the global economy down for three months. I would like something in the middle. Is that too much to ask? I don't think that people need to be taking swings at each other like Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson over toilet paper in aisle 7 because of a virus that has a mortality rate of 2.3% at most.

Americans living in a bubble never cease to make me laugh because they really have no idea how dumb they sound...Have you actually paid attention to what happened in Italy?

This is literally the main problem in discussing politics with anyone nowadays, even when an issue shouldn't really be political (although in the US, there's no such thing anymore, unfortunately). The mutual hate is so big that nobody wants to own up to being wrong. As a result, you deal with shit like this thread whereby a person is doing anything, literally anything, in order not to come off like they're admitting a mistake. Notice Cali was much more condescending and cavalier about this initially. Now, when evidence is shockingly supporting the fact that he's wrong, he's trying to tap-dance. It's really all about "owning" someone and showing them up. Internet culture can be the worst sometimes.

The idea that people, especially conservative Americans actually care about how their president performs is starting to sound like bullshit really. People will forever defend their biases, and with US politics turning into a battle of cults ( "any woman president would do" feminists, Bernie, Trump, racists, even though the last two are interchangeable), it really doesn't matter anymore. This Cornovirus crisis really shows what happens when you vote for a guy whose expertise is limited to a couple of fields, and literally has no idea how the fuck anything else works. Yet, he'll be reelected in 6 months

in order not to come off like they're admitting a mistake.

Speaking about admitting mistakes, even if I still maintain that a great deal of hysteria is going on, I admit that I was wrong when I complained about the canceling of events -- specially IW. They did the right thing by acting ahead of the curve, specially considering the lack of information. (I still think from now on they should have events closed to the public but broadcasted to the world. But now at least they have time to prepare for that, something for sure IW did not have).

So, yes, it is being politicized, but the only way to stop it is that, at some point, people must start to concede points even if for the political benefit of their political adversaries. It is a lose-lose situation, you will lose no matter what. Ultimately there is no logic in (metaphorically) dying embraced with your enemies. At least that is not a comfort to me.

And I do hate this spirit of is either the greatest threat to mankind or simply nothing at all.

You're running out of messengers to shoot in your Corona-denial, Even Trump's flipped from calling it a hoax to a national emergency.

Trump never called the virus itself a "hoax" dickhead. He called the Democrats' hyping of it a hoax, and he was absolutely right about that. Facebook even deleted a Politico article for making the claim that Trump called the virus a hoax because if you listen to what he actually said at the rally in question he never said that the virus itself was a hoax. So please, stop being such a lazy bum and try to be more precise with what you are claiming.

Second, while the Democrats were totally preoccupied with impeachment in late January guess who was 1) hyping the coronavirus and 2) taking action on it?

Answer to #1: Tucker Carlson of Fox News. Yes, big bad Fox News. In late January and early February Carlson repeatedly ran segments on the coronavirus when no one else in the American media was talking about it - i.e. none of the people that Tented or Moxie consider "respected" or "legitimate."

Answer to #2: President Donald Trump. He actually declared a "public health emergency" in response to the coronavirus on January 31st, while the retarded Democrats were pursuing impeachment and Federturd was getting hot and bothered over Lev Parnas. Do you know when the rally was that Trump called the coronavirus hype a "hoax"? Friday February 28th. It was in South Carolina one day before Biden's victory in the primary on Saturday February 29th.

So, once again, get your facts right dickhead. Trump declared a "public health emergency" while the Democrats were indulging in impeachment mania. And Fox News was the only major TV network in the U.S. with a nighttime anchor talking about the coronavirus on a regular basis in January.

Dude, someone really needs to teach you a logical fallacy course. This is a ridiculous straw-man.

Lol.....you really are a fucking moron, plus a parochial, narrow-minded bigot to boot. Apparently asking a simple question about mortality rate of a disease means engaging in "logical fallacies." Everything you criticize Americans for is projection on your part. You are a total bigot and know far less than you think you do. Every time you comment on the United States you demonstrate your total ignorance of a country that is foreign to you, and this case is no different.

As hopeless as you are, I'll take a moment to straighten you out, just a little bit.....the issue here is a matter of comparison. When you are hyping something as terrible or bad, you have to ask the simple question "compared to what?"

As of right now, there are not even 100 DEATHS in the United States from this stupid virus. Not even 100 in a country with a population near 330 million. And almost half of those deceased are people who were in a fucking nursing home in the state of Washington. If you listened to the media and stupid government officials, you would think 100,000 have died. As it is right now, NOT EVEN 100 in the United States have died.

Plus, there is this from a top official at Health and Human Services from Friday, March 6th:

"The best estimates now of the overall mortality rate for COVID-19 is somewhere between 0.1 percent and 1 percent." - Admiral Brett P. Giroir, M.D.

And then there is this information from the Surgeon General of the United States, Admiral Jerome Adams, who presented it at a recent White House news conference:

- The average age of death is 80
- People over the age of 60 are much more likely to develop complications from the virus and be hospitalized
- And, best of all: if you're a child or young adult, you're much more likely to die from the flu than from the coronavirus

THAT IS FROM THE SURGEON GENERAL OF THE UNITED STATES. Not my words, but his.

And our political leaders are idiotically shutting down the U.S./global economy over a virus with a mortality rate likely less than 1% (according to a top official at HHS) whose average death victim is 80 years old (according to the Surgeon General of the United States). This is the dumbest and most stupid thing I have ever witnessed. So naturally Bwoken Boy supports it. Entirely predictable.

Right, so a timeline is idiocy, as are facts. Neither you nor Britbox even knew that Trump declared this a "public health emergency" on January 31st while your little illogical impeachment farce was going on. It was hardly even reported.

Britbox also did not know that Trump declared that emergency a full month before calling the Democrats' treatment of the virus a hoax at the end of February in South Carolina. I am just trying to get some basic info to all you ignoramuses who run your mouth about the U.S. while clearly knowing nothing about it.

You're welcome. You need it. :good:

Lol.....is that why the Democratic governor of New York complimented Trump for "moving quickly" on the coronavirus just last Friday you ignorant dumbass? Read something you illiterate tool:

“I want to thank the vice president — and especially the president — who facilitated this and moved quickly,” Cuomo said during a Friday press conference.

Not to mention that Trump declared a "public health emergency" on January 31st (which involved subjecting Americans abroad to mandatory quarantines on military bases) or that on February 2nd he ordered a temporary travel ban on all non-U.S. citizens who recently visited China while everyone else was focused on impeachment.

But yeah, sure, he has been incompetent. You really know what you are talking about!

Lol.....so the same person who criticizes others for living in a bubble wants us to define an international crisis by one country, which would be the epitome of "living in a bubble." But we are talking to BwokenWooFace, the board's resident political dumbass.

You want to look at Italy? Sure, let's look at Italy. Let's look at this article just for starters:

Why are deaths from coronavirus so high in Italy?

Italy now has the highest number of deaths from COVID-19 outside of mainland China.

Deaths from the new coronavirus in Italy have soared in recent days, with the country reporting 463 total fatalities from the virus, out of 9,172 confirmed cases, as of Monday (March 9). But why are deaths in the country so high?

Outside of mainland China, Italy now has the highest number of deaths in the world from COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. And the country's fatality rate from COVID-19 — at 5% — is much higher than the global average of 3.4%, according to the World Health Organization.

One factor affecting the country's death rate may be the age of its population — Italy has the oldest population in Europe, with about 23% of residents 65 or older, according to The New York Times. The median age in the country is 47.3, compared with 38.3 in the United States, the Times reported. Many of Italy's deaths have been among people in their 80s, and 90s, a population known to be more susceptible to severe complications from COVID-19, according to The Local.

There you go, Bwoken, you fool. Italy is having a problem with this mostly because its population is staggeringly old, with a median population of 47.3. And most of their deaths have been among people in their 80s and 90s.

So let me ask you....."Have you actually paid attention to what happened in Italy?"

Apparently not. But then you think you're better than "Americans" because you go on your computer and can read a headline about the death toll in Italy without even bothering to read the details of an article. Wow, what a worldly, detail-oriented "scholar" you are.

Here is a succinct and very sensible article from Heather MacDonald (a FEMALE scholar, which should get Moxie's attention!) on the wildly disproportionate response to coronavirus. It is a good rebuttal to hysterical alarmists like Britbox and Federberg, although it would probably fly over Bwoken's head.

Compared to what?

Lol at all the squabbling over Flynn when the sitting US President has just pulled off one of the biggest clusterfuck moves in recent history. (sorry @Moxie, I'll get my coat).

Good call Britbox. The Soleimani strike truly did result in World War III, just as the "coronavirus" will result in the deaths of 700 million people. It's only at about 7,000 right now but I'm sure it will get to 700 million in no time.
