I'm from an era of "gettng the ball back" into play while most players today are going for a 1st strike offensive that loses them matchs IMO!
Naomi trying to return her serve afterwards the ball has finished moving. You have to hit the left service earlier before it kicks. Naomi or her coaches should have prepared better than this for the Lefty server.

She can't get her tennis together until she gets her head straightened out. This was all mental tonight,
Agreed. It was on her racquet, and I generally hate to say that, as too simplistic. I hope that Naomi can decide that there is joy for her, in tennis, and not just stress and pressure.

She definitely didn't put the match away at closing time. She let that gal hang around and build belief.

And before anybody gets any bright ideas about should she or shouldn't she have been penalized. She should have. It should have cost her a point. She wasn't warned when she tossed her racquet twice, but then Allison Lang had to do something when she hit that ball in the stands. The rules aren't being applied evenly.

Kskate I too was surprised from Lang who is a experienced umpire she Should have Penalized Osaka....also hitting balls in stands?
Dumbfounded....the rules should be at all times applied in matches

Please give the youngster her due...I am really over people saying 'it was on their racket'? Osaka has not been playing good tennis of late, out early in the Olympics and also Cincy....

Right. Lang didn't do anything when Naomi tossed the racquet both times. Finally after losing her serve in the 3rd set, she hit a ball in the stands and Lang finally gave her a code of conduct warning, but it didn't cost her anything because it was the first warning. I think this whole mental thing has caused some people to handle her with kid gloves.

Before I had to leave the match after the 2nd set, my commies were saying Poor Osaka her mental issues have come back? Please, she threw her racquet in disgust because she got broken serving for the match, for starters, she threw a fissy attack.
