Just going through Fernandez pressor, and watching the rest of the 3rd set.
I loved when she said on court she knew before she stepped on court she could beat Osaka.Great attitude from a 18 year old.
It was a lack of match practice that brought Osaka undone today apart from her throwing racqets on court and balls into crowd.
When Osaka got broken serving for the match she first threw her racquet down in disgust, she should have reset mentally for the t/break but she did not and Fernandez won with ease,Osaka by the way does not have a good record against left handers.
The toilet break Osaka took did not do her any help at all,Fernandez got the early break in the 3rd set and went onto win.She earned the win full stop and showed great composure for an 18 year old.
Osaka as I mentioned has not been playing well, since she took the break from tennis to sort out 'mental issues',lack of match practice, which was evident at the Olympics and again at Cinncy.
I still do not think she has the 'mentality of a top tier athlete' she has a great game for tennis granted, have always been a huge fan.
This will be the second time she wants a break from tennis, maybe she should do what Ash Barty did and walk away for sometime, look at Ash Barty now,the No 1 player, loving tennis, great down to earth attitude,as she says if she loses, there will always be another tournament of tennis to play and the sun will rise the next day.I hope she finds the 'mental peace' she is looking for and be happy because at the moment all tennis is doing to her is giving her grief.
