Here is the language of the rule book. It seems a bit open-ended. Bonaca may have a point:

NOw this why Nadal and federer more loved than djokovic acting like this, even if federer hit the ball really hard into the crowd last year like a crazy man still never hit a woman in the neck thats even worse.

Djokovic still has a winning H2H against both and is the best all-around player of the 3.

Novak burried himself 2 minutes before the incident when he slammed the ball after the Busta dropshot. That convinced official to say adios amigo.

It was up to officials on court according to the Grand Slam rule book in this situation,
Officials deemed it to be a Major Offence of 'Aggravated Behaviour'.....therefore default.

Oh yeah, it was real classy how Nadal used to go to the bathroom to sit on the toilet for 35 minutes whenever Federer was kicking his ass on clay. Only you could be naive or dumb enough to not realize what he was doing.

You are probably right about that. And that’s where Bonaca probably has a point. There was a subjective element at work here and slamming the ball a few points earlier probably did not help Djokovic’s case.

But he’s 6-9 in h2h slams vs Nadal. And he also trails them both by at least 2 slams. Sorry not yet and probably never.

Yes, so Bonaca does have a point. There was a subjective element here. And I don’t think it met the standard of “egregious” since he was not even looking at the person. But, by the same token, Djokovic has played with fire many times and been lucky not to hit anyone.

Way to just make it clear that this is only about the Slam count to you. That has been evident this entire thread. You don’t really care if the rule was applied fairly or sensibly. You just want Djokovic sent home and whatever does the trick, you’ll support.

And Nadal’s Slam record against Djokovic is heavily inflated by the Roland Garros wins.....don’t take that as some kind of evidence for the nature of their series overall.

Anyways the press conference of Carreno Busta should be very soon. Djokovic meanwhile quickly left and didn’t answer any questions.

Stop talking about this there was already a warning by the moderator to stick to the U.S. Open.

even IF I agree djokovic deserved to be defaulted, I think there needs to be rules changes on the Atp tour its outdated right now, and dont tihink players should be defaulted for not meaning to hit lines people or umpires at All its dumb, other sports dont do this even soccer overacting is a big thing in tennis. but of djokovic it coming hiting someone in the neck could really hurt someone.

Does he lose his 180 points from last year?

Well, that leaves only one silver lining, lol: he will have a lot of points to pick up next year at the US Open. I think this penalty is overly severe for what occurred but clearly the higher-ups at the US Open are tired of how Djokovic acts on court and they certainly were given an excuse to make that clear, which they did.
