It boggles my mind that the ATP and WTA do not make players surrender any type of communication device before they leave the court with their bags for any time out. That would be an easy way to curtail “unnecessary” time outs stalling for time if indeed players are using it to communicate during time outs.
Even if he doesn't have a phone with him, these long breaks give him the opportunity to kill momentum, calm himself and rethink his strategy (if he can think on his own).

I know but if you take away the ability to communicate with outside people, you may take away an incentive for the break in the first place for people who just aren’t intelligent enough to figure it out on the court.

But this isn’t an ATP event. It’s a grand slam. They can make whatever rules they want, so both the ATP and the majors would need to be in sync on this issue for there to be any semblance of uniformity.
Hopefully they can both be in 'sync' on this issue ASAP,.honestly,it has become a joke.

Wow Zverev is getting better and better. Destroying poor Albert.
Don’t spending a minute more on court than necessary, saving all his energy for SF and F.

Karatsev in big trouble and Matteo still far from his best form.
Berrettini often reminds me of Del Potro with the way he plays.

So many "Name" players playing against each other with many getting extended or eliminated in the 1st two rounds! It's a shame Mussetti got Opelka today! I think the ranks will be deservedly filled by so many "up and comers" I recognize and have games to respect! :partying-face: :yahoo::-)2

Aussie Jordan Thompson who reminds me of a 'porn star with his moustache' has just broken back, when Karatsev serving for the 3rd set 5-4, 5 all now.Jordan leads 2 sets to love.( hopefully Tented won't post his picture again:)
Oh well that was short lived,Karatsev will now attempt to serve for the 3rd set 6-5
Karatsev on his 2nd attempt wins the 3rd set 7-5.Thompson leads 2 sets to 1

I could see a potential rule change coming for toilet break. They didn't have time monitoring between points before and it was abused, now same thing is happening again. I am pretty sure some restrictions will come following the recent events. Even 5 minutes is already disrupting the moment. I remember seeing players before changing quite fast and rushing back to the court. I assume they were doing this also due to respect for the opponent.

I think that now that the focus is on it, the rule will be changed/clarified. It's better for fans and for TV. Tsitsipas, in his very defensive presser about it, cited Murray going off court before the 5th in the USO final v. Djokovic in 2012. (NB: Djokovic also went off court after losing one of them, in that match.) But Tsitsipas was told that Murray only went off for 3 minutes. I remember clearly reading that Murray said he went off to have a chat with himself, off-court. At the time, I worried if it was gaming. But, 3 minutes, I think you get them. Whether it's to change your kit, have a pee, or talk to yourself in the mirror, I think 5 minutes should be maximum. #rulechangenow

Berretini wins! Hurray! I'm curious how you find him similar to Del Potro, other than the big serve and powerful bh? Ok, that's a lot, but Juan Martin moved like a sloth around the court, and Matteo is much more purposeful.
To the point of Matteo, Moutet played very well, and Berrettini only found his range later in the match. Injury seems not an issue, and I hope he's trending upwards.

I think you're right. And I saw your previous post about him, Novak and Medevedev as the players on song, so far. Just speaking to Zverev, he has a lot to prove from last year, he knows that he may have to go through Djokovic and Meddie to do it, and so he has to be very focused and economical. So far, so good.
