Kerber looked very much in control last night--against a top player who she has battled over the many years. Caro is back to playing top notch tennis and it is good to see. Pliskova has really taken off! That service is right up there with anyone and clearly bothered Serena all match long. It is unusual to see her stymied as she is one of the best returners of service I have seen. I think it will be a heckuva final.
I think many people underestimated Pliskova,I for one did not,I have been waiting for her to 'break through' especially at Majors, before this she has not made it past the 3rd round.Watching her play at Cinncy I knew then she could very well be a Dark Horse for the USO,defeating Venus, which I feel was so far the 'best match at the USO' now Serena.I have to hand it to Kerber,I have never really been a fan of her game,to me at times she plays too defensive, she can hit the ball with pace,I felt her game 2 years ago her game had plateaued she changed coaches and now plays with more offense, she has always been a great athlete.
In the final I will be behind Pliskova, nice to see that each one of the Majors this year will have a different winner, well hoepfullyAlso good to see Caroline making the s/finals after a horrid year with injuries, though I am hearing rumors of retirement?.....I guess we shall see.]
I do too. The only thing I worry about is how Pliskova will react to being in her very first final. Thus far, she looks strong and in control. I hope that's what happens tomorrow. Then we'll have a really good final.
we DID have a very good final.
the better player today won -- to GIVE SUBSTANCE to her ascendance as number one in the world and be the season's BEST player.
the finalist showed poise even if felled by lesser experience and a formidable champion.
a FINE battle between the TWO DESERVING finalists - and champion.
NOW my dearest Serena has to work hard to try and regain her top rank - prepare for the coming year and WIN that GRAND SLAM . to 26 majors!!
What's going on with Kerbers elbows??
She appears to have two on each arm.
