I have zero faith in Grigor to pull of this upset. If he serves really well, and Andy gets crabby, he may take a set. IMO.

Also glad to see Juan looking so good. Sorry Thiem is injured. Hopefully not so bad.

You haven't missed much, thus far. Dimitrov hasn't had a lot of answers. But there he gets the break.

Andy is very sharp, but for those who still harbor illusions that Dimitrov will be a slam winner, I give you this match.

not even THAT Moxie. he's being outclassed simply --it's a MASTER CLASS by andy.

on the other hand - JOHNNY MAC - just said

:"if andy and novak meet TOMORROW -- IT'S ANDY -- if the meet on SUNDAY -- IT'S NOVAK">

what do you all think, agree with johnny?

Still hard to say about Djokovic's level. Edmund wasn't much of a test yesterday. But I would just about give Murray the edge.

maybe grigor can be a slam winner -- one day -- but not against THIS level of andy or nole in their height of playing.

dimitrov is obviously very talented but just NOT that BIG a game to really match them.

his shots are great but in none of them is there the kind of WEIGHT nd power that , for example DELPO hs and is required to match up agains tandy or nole in their current form.

he IS like a ''baby federer" so far. even at 24. just a TAD lesser than the other big four really.

Not just a "tad" lesser than the big four. He's got a pretty game, but no head or commitment. And not a lot of weight on those shots. He's way more Richard Gasquet than Roger Federer, and he proved it again tonight. I think his talent has been over-sold. I was wondering if he'd make a case for himself tonight, but not even close. Andy's playing great, but Grigor is an also-ran, and we should stop expecting more from him.

i agree. if we have to just look at ''the now" form -- andy is definitely the TOP contender this year.

we have to see what's wrong with NOLE - and hopefully it's just the 'sleepy'' thing and he's ''waking up' the rest of the week - as we would want the BEST tennis from them!

what is your impression of DELPO so far? little improvements i think - but is it suffiicent/ ?

THAT'S what i was looking for -- the comparison you made -- ''more gasquet level"

ALL the variety is there but just lacking that ''extra" - that ROGER could easily insert in the hardness of his shots, does that make sense?

i mean -- just from my view over the long years BUT ONLY AS A VIEWER not as an actual player -- and you guys play so you know exactly what it feels like.

I don't think they're little improvements. He's playing some great tennis. His forehand is lethal again, it seems. He's playing Wawrinka next. Boy, anyone who could predict that outcome will win money. Stan, at full-flight, will hurt Delpo if JM is slicing his BH too much. And Delpo can't get too mopey around the baseline. But Juan's FH is penetrating and flat. He's tall and can get up on Stan. It will be one to watch. I'm rooting for Del Potro, but as @britbox mentioned, Stan has a knack for the late rounds.

DELPO for me too.

i CAN/T root for stan at all - i just dont/ like him. sorry. but one thing i really hated about HIM

is those years - he beat rafa one time - some davis cup maybe or something ...

and his main remark was "roger will be very happy " because rafa just beat roger -- again -- in some other tournament..making some reference to RAFA' S dominance over roger..i mean -- really?

FLOOR MAT AND ''defender of roger against others" is waht STAN was most of his career....like a GUARDIAN to keep away nole or andy or rafa - and then when facing roger

CONVENIENTLY imploding - and starts to win against roger ONLY when roger was becoming more vulnerable himself to stan.

he's one of those that spent almost his entire career

described by the NBA STAR CHARLES BARKLEY -- "these players around roger federer - that swiss guy -- teh WAY THEY ACT AND PLAY around him - you'd think they all wanna BED HIM -- don't they understand that HE'S taking food off of THEIR PLATES? "

ewe.......so distasteful to me.

Stan's made many remarks like that in reference to Rafa. But for me, it was the AO that he won when Rafa was injured and he threw a fit with the umpire pretending that Rafa was cheating when he went to the bathroom. Despised his adulterous self ever since.

HE DID THAT? IN AO? i must have missed it or looked away from the TV or just forgot...but if so - that's the thing i have in peevesabout him -- like he's concerning himself with what the 'others success" is ..whether theya re 'cheating' or going to bathroom or whatever..just concentrate on HIS plying...

but to me that kind of thing he was about on rafa/roger - showed me what i suspected --that he was - at least in those years -- SO enamored with his friend roger -- that he seemed to get his sense of 'worth" by being roger's doormat or ''defender" from players who WERE dangerous to roger in the rounds...if you look at the past years - he seemed to come up with what even watchers NOTICE as the ''best playing" of stan -- and AGAINST the likes of nole, rafa, andy or whichever it is at the moment that were threatenign roger..

and then -- he ends up facing his idol and friend and deflates obligingly...

i asked myself -- ''why?" but it was not just ONE instance - it happened so often..so - concluded: ''the guy acts like a protector"...satisfied with being ''second best swiss" when AGAINST roger -- but like the WARRIOR defending his master's castle when against rafa or others...enough to make them play hard, long, and ''spent" BY the time THEY reach roger...if people checked videos in sequence of such tournaments -- which of course is SILLY AND really waste of time now --

they will in any case see what i mean.

That's so true about Stan; how he tries his hardest to beat those who can beat Roger. He's always been that way. I can't stand him. At all. Instead of focusing on his own career all of these years he's put all of his energy into defending Roger while he had nothing. You can't get more weak-minded than that, IMO.
