Against Wawrinka you mean, or from now on whenever he plays?

and then when someone like that , that i feel suddenly sentimental for -- goes against MY favorite -- say NOLE or RAFA ...

I'M GONNA suspend my rooting for EITHER player...i/m gonna root for ''the better player' on that day.

IF NOLE doesnt play WELL -- I'M GONNA root for the player that plays better -- namely the ''little guy" - if the little guy doens/'t play well and disappoints -- im' gonna root for the better players NOLE. so i'm gonna root for ''who plays and competes better" on that day.

that's how i basically 'protect' my own emotions, i think. my way of setting aside my ''sentiments' for either player -- and become ''dispassionate" for either of them and just for ''good tennis" and ''the better tennis competitor" on that day. tha't show i do it, round by round.

I am backing here the MacEnroe bros. How do you think Nick can be fit and prepared when e has no coach and no fitness trainer? Hello?
The guy is not serious about this sport and he wastes his talent and time.
He will be never a top player in the real sense , like a top 5 or so with this attitude.
But I am sure we will never find out, because I am almost sure he will quit entirely the sport soon.
He looks like he does not want to be there Period.

oh i DEFINITELY agree with you too.

clearly so many people are inlove with nick's talent AND his colorful personality -- TENNIS NEEDS IT -- but he HAS to earn the rest .

he has a GOOD BEGINNING -- based on pure talent and personality .

NOW he has to WORK TO BUILD on it -- and only DISCIPLINE and commitment does that.

if NADAL, NOLE, ANDY, ROGER WAWRINKA, etc. didn't dsicipline themselves -- where would THEY be?

SAME RULE applies to ultra talented kyrgios.

Tell us how you feel Herios.;-):

I think he cares and wants to do well and his sometimes questionable attitude is just a young guy's way of deflecting the pressure. You know, I don't care...but it's just posturing. It could be a possibility, how knows.

i don't like wawrinka. so that's the first reason.

the second -- against anyone IF marchenkp can prove himself .

i'm like that -- even against MY top favorites --i'll be able to root against an underdog once i feel ''this guy needs a break and have HIS day in the sun even just once".

i don't know - but that's how i am. i just like the ''wealth spread" more. hehe. i just like to see more of them with big, big smiles on their faces that they made it ''once" also. u know?

I ALWAYS keep in mind -- i have been ''so successful' in my own way of PICKING my top favorites -- like rafa, nole, etc...and before them sampras, steffi...etc...and serena ...etc...

that as a FAN i can ''afford" to see even THESE -- big favorites of mine -- to lose to an UNKNOWN. but i only want it if it means the unknown can have a really nice day for the rest of his career. something that will make that unknown a real ''star" in his own way.
and MY b ig favorites -- i remind myself "they are already GAZILLIONAIRES...and really competing against themselves and their own records and history....

so far ABOVE the ''little names". THEY can afford a few hundred thosuand dollars LOSS in a bet...of tennis match -- or a loss of another ROUTINE TITLE of majors etc...

but the little names - IF they can prove themselves for a few matches -- could really USE just a little fraction of what is so ORDINARY to the big names...the little names also have families , u know...
tha'ts how i always did it as a fan of tennis and my own favorites.
something like that is ALWAYS playing in the back of my mind when i watch tennis. lol..

i can't help it - i'm sentimental that way.

I am with you completely. I like nice Cinderella stories and always pick the underdog to root for, when I am not invested with my favorite polayers
Ilya especially touched me tonight with that interview, what a nice young fellow. Go Ilya!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a good attitude Teddy. I, on the other hand, get phone calls and messages from my relatives and friends concerned about my health after a Nole loss.:D

i forgot about that -- maybe you could be right -- that - being so young

he is also posturing -- that kind of thing some young people do -- sort of tryign to show they're not moved by what others think...

Yeah, that's it. I may be wrong, of course, but that's how I feel. We really don't know how he trains and what he does, now do we?

hahaha....oh don't get me wrong. when NOLE, LOSES i really, really get down ...if RAFA loses i also really, really get down...

and THA'TS AFTER i 'rooted for the better player' ''fake neutrality" - of mine...to preserve MYself ...

i have these little games for myhself, really like little calculations

to sort of ''permit" mseylf to root FOR nadal OVER nole OR nole OVER nadal IF they have to meet?

how i do it is "

"let's see -- today nadal really NEEDS this win because he has been losing to nole for like forever now -- OK go RAFA?" "

or i see "let's see -- NOLE IS STILL SO SAD because he lost AGAIN and his number one status is in danger -- so rafa CAN be happy that he's back in the finals again - so GO NOLE!!"

but this is reserved onloy for NOLE, RAFA, ANDY AND DELPO in my favorites of their generation.

for others i if ANY of these above players are around -- i will ALWAYS root for the above players. lol. because i will say "ok -- the other guy had his nice run already -- now BACK to my favorites" lol.

i go like that1 hehe.

Billie, you just want to think positive things about someone, I know you:)
Here I think you are wrong, have you seen that farce of a match Nick put on when he played Shapovalov in Toronto. That was a shame.
He did not want to compete.
And he mentioned many times that he does not like tennis and he will not stay in this sport too long. If he keeps repeating it, it must be true.

too bad isn't it? we can always say -- because we've all been through growing up years too --

"he's still looking for what he REALLY WANTS' and just happens to be so talented he's already INSIDE a world class sport level as a professional were most kids his age are still not sure what MAJOR to get in college ...or even whether to go to school or work in the store...

but in HIS case -- he needs to ''choose a major" already. and doing that -- if he DOES -- he MUST commit -including recognition that its NOT all fun - it takes WORK and getting up to exercise and train and listen to advice and guidance and not drinking or whatever...or playing video and texting...

he EITHER is a TENNIS PLAYER or NOT.

EVEN the famously 'hedonistic" MARAT SAFIN THAT almost no girl would pass up - disciplined himself ENOUGH - despite his own dislike of ''just practicing" as his mom told him --

managed to become number one by talent and discipline . and THEN he could choose what he wanted to do..which - he did.

I don't know for sure how he is. I might be wrong and he really doesn't care about tennis, I'll concede that. It's not as if I had never been wrong in my life. I didn't see that match in Toronto, and frankly younger generation in general are different than young generations from past times. Half of the stuff my cousins' kids say and do I don't understand. I'll give him a couple more years so he can mature a bit and then cast a final judgement.

that;s just so nice of BILLIE, IF so.

maybe we can just hope NICK really finds what he wants -- SOON -- and then get down to it - if he CAN tell imself he also likes tennis enough to do what it takes, but if not -- too bad really ..a real waste.

it's hihgly conceivable to me that had HE been as OBSESSED as - say nadal or nole orothers about the tennis --

he MIGHT have already been an ACTUAL majors holder RIGHT NOW.

I'/M ALSO inclining that way actually .

i'll be patient - hope for the best that he might yet discover he LIKES tennis after all -- and see what happens in the coming years first.

But that is up to him. Why should I care more about it than Nick himself? I take them as they are and what they give to tennis fans. No more and no less. Expectations are always tricky and most times unreal, no matter which player we are talking about.

BTW did you see my photos from Toronto? They are in Media section, take a look. There is one of young Donaldson, who beat Fabio in Toronto, and he won a couple of big matches here in New York as well.

That's exactly how I see it too, teddy. Also, it seems silly to wish my favorite gather all of the trophies, accolades, money and endorsements when one win by a lesser known player can give them a memory of a lifetime.

I don't like Stan either. I'm glad I'm not alone.

Yeah, that's it. I may be wrong, of course, but that's how I feel. We really don't know how he trains and what he does, now do we?

You know what he tells us and that is that he doesn't practice more than twice a week. So we can compare to No1e's 2, Rafa's 6 and Fed's 9 hours every day.
