Well it should be said that Australia only has played faster this year and from what I heard it was all due to them resurfacing the courts either earlier or later than normal (forget which). They didn't change the surface composition and they didn't switch the type of ball according to the tournament director. So I'm not sure it's going to play like this year from here on out. RG switched to a lighter ball for just 2011 for some reason but has stayed the same aside from that.

Yes, I too watched the match. But, I passed out on the couch and did not post. It is probably the most dominating performance by any player we have seen at this year's USO on Men's side. But, Mischa got some sort of quick treatment couple of times. So, it is difficult to tell how much that played a role. But, I tend to think it is minimal and SQ's game is the main reason.

Now Uncle Sam is the highest ranked player (for the first time in his life) of its denizens!

I think between Isner and Sam, Sam has higher ceiling and Isner has higher floor.

I too expect to see SQ win out the bottom half. He said in Wimbledon pencil me for finals next year. It looks like he does not have to wait until next Wimbledon to reach finals.

You give me too much credit. I don't think I'm the only one in this forum or world to note that conditions at Wimbledon and USO have been drastically slowed down over the years. It's clear what type of game that favors. Fed has done well in spite of the slowing of the courts aside from the USO where he's stunk for far too long.

This tournament is a complete disaster. The bottom half is a complete joke with no exciting players left (Shapovalov was the positive highlight but he's out). The top half leaves my hopes with Juan Martin Del Potro. The situation is dire indeed.

While Dolgopolov was horrible throughout the match, I thought Nadal played a clean and smart match. He did not try too hard (part of it was his opponent) but it was still a good sign that he wasn't forcing his aggressive shots.

As for his return of serve, it was better than his previous three matches. At the same token, Dolgopolov did not really hurt him too much on his own serve. We will see in the last three rounds if Nadal can improve his return of serve...

Rublev might be flying under the radar with most, but I have been talking about him for a couple years. After he stalled in his development last year I was a bit worried, but this year I feel vindicated. He is a legit talent - possibly behind only Zverev, Shapo and Aliassime in terms of upside. I definitely put Rublev ahead of Coric, Khachanov, Medvedev, Fritz, Ruud, etc; and probably ahead of Tiafoe.

Also, by beating Goffin and reaching the QF, he has done something Alex Zverev still hasn't done. This looks like a real breakthrough tournament for him.

Nice win for Rublev. I like the kid, he's 19 and going to be around #35 after the loss to Nads on Wednesday. He's one to watch out for in the future too.
