Excellent way to close the set.

Shocked he is struggling with the cupcakes so far. Once they lose a set though they usually cave in. Rafa has the far superior endurance too of course.

Haven't watched since Mayer lost serve as I knew it was gonna be over soon after that. Looks like this could be over fast now hopefully. That fail on the volley cost him the match.

Back to dissecting chickens. Chopping up 2 x 2.2KG chickens instead of watching the rest of this :p

Seems Mayer didn't get the memo: never ever go full retard.

He's legit playing like his 2015/2016 self (and has been all summer on hards). The main difference is when he gets an upper hand in these matches and gets some momentum, he can actually play well, as opposed to the Fognini and Pouille debacle. But yeah, he's playing like shit.

It is almost as if there is a sucking contest between Rafa and Roger. They both are competing to determine who can suck more.

Those were my thoughts throughout this tournament. I'm honestly expecting neither to win it.

Will it be good to shift Roger's match to the other big court? That way, he can start his match right now at a decent time. I think it's more important than having his match played on the AAS.

Nadal fans, if someone could grant you one wish: That Nadal could serve better or return better, which one would you choose?

You'd think it would be the serve, but Jesus, his returning is actually the worst aspect of his game by a comfortable margin. It's barely top-20 level.

Roger's match is first. It's the women's match that figured to start obnoxiously late

Be sure to be surprised. These guys still look good enough to me.

In a normal tournament, no they don't. But Rafa may end up going through this draw without playing a top 15 player assuming Fed goes out before the semis.

The way Nadal is coming out for these matches is so infuriating. Someone needs to inform him that he's actually allowed to hit his forehand inside out or up the line. I swear he's playing as if he's only allowed to change direction midway through the match.

And I fully expect the Dolgopolov match to be tough and wouldn't be shocked with an upset.

You're as much of an Eeyore as Darth is, but Rafa is not playing like he should, given that it's a near-gift, and his tendency to be opportunistic. I keep waiting for him to pick up the level, and it doesn't really happen, or until he gets an advantage in the 2nd set. Waiting for other players to implode isn't going to last much longer.

Thiem is in that half of the draw, isn't he? I haven't been paying close attention to the draw beyond Rafa's quarter.
