Unfortunately Frances is not the guy you want to play in the first round when you're not 100% as he can blast the cover off the ball.

Fed moving poorly and as soon as he hits a backhand the point is over right now
other than some health issue idk why else hes not hitting his bh with authority like he was earlier this year??

Come on, give him some time, maybe he will play better the second set

Nah, he screwed the pooch playing Montreal without practice. The easy plan was play at one of his strongest tourneys (Cincy) as a big favorite to win and enter USO healthy and with confidence where he'd be the clear favorite. I'm not sure he's surviving tonight but he clearly isn't going far at this event even if he wins this

Question, I see that Roger's fans are expecting too much. Federer is 36 years old, he couldn't play in Cincinnati because his back issue and now all of you are expecting that he has to play eexcellent his first match against a player who obviously is playing pretty well at least in these last tournaments? I don't ge it

This isn't looking good. Hard not to be confident against this version of Federer

i have very little expectation from fed for the rest of the year tbh ive said this before. but i did think he would play better than this but maybe its better in the long run if he goes out here earlier and gets rest.

Even if Fed was healthier, Frances would have confidence. He beat the inform player of the summer in Sasha. I would expect him to come to his home tournament w/ a tremendous amount of confidence.

I'm mad at him for being such an idiot with his schedule. That led to the back injury and is leading to this terrible performance.

As soon as I saw this draw I knew he'd be in deep trouble if his back wasn't 100%

He barely beat the corpse of Zverev, it may give him some confidence but probably not too much

Barely or not. He held his serve and held it together and beat him when others were laying down.

Fed looks like he's aged 15 years since Wimbledon. Barely moving.
