I did not see the final but will do so later. Do you reckon Djokovic's long road to the final was a factor?

Let's face it at his age and also the way he goes about his game, this is not aggression based. Congrats to Danill who avenges his thrashing at the australian open this year's final.
Luck was not on djokers side today. Med had a lucky letcord down 15-30 third set and it could have been a break for Djoker to be on even term and potentially Djoker could have turned it around, being the greatest fighter when his back is against the wall. Oh well, Djoker had a lot of things going his way before …..multiple times when Roger was outplaying him and holding match points.

Come on man. You don't lose in straights because of bad luck

Which of the three matches are you referring to ? 2010 , 2011 U S Open semifinals? 2019 Wimbly final, or all three matches? It'll be too much of a coincidence for Luck to play a role three times, surely?

Doesn’t take much for it to happen. Djoker had a lot of chances to get back.
I know what you're saying, but we could easily say the same thing about many of those Fedal matches. At the end of the day this ended up not being that close. Novak was stressed and didn't play his best. Normally it wouldn't matter, but he's created a monster in Medvedev. For the first time Novak was practically playing his mirror image. I can't imagine it was pleasant

To be honest, Djokovic hasn’t played inspired tennis since the Australian Open. He just was fortunate to come across players who didn’t make him pay for it. I think the only other match he seemed to really show something was his SF match against Rafa at the French.

I have to ask what was it about the russian that you felt he had the tools to win the championship? Did the fact he reached two other GS finals come into it?
Well he played well and conserved his energy to the s/finals,I thought out of Novak and Medvedev in the s.finals,Medvedev played the better.I knew he had the game to distrupt Novak,he had to start well, which he did and to me played the best match I have seen him play and deserved to win.

Medvedev,an avid video game player, also confirmed at the end of his acceptence speech that his celebration had been "L2+Left,a FIFA goal celebration where the player collapses to the ground like a brick.Medvedev assured the crowd that only 'legends' would understand what he meant.

Good one Margarat. Certainly agree. To be fair to N.D. he struggled all tournament long to play and sustain his best.

Perhaps now Danill will start a new era/domination leaving ND/Rafa/ Roger stuck on 20 grand slams each.

I’m not convinced Novak is done. I think he will win a couple more slams. Rafa it will depend on how he bounces back from this injury. Federer is done for sure with this latest injury set back.

After longuish absence from this forum, I've heard the news Medvedev has stopped Joker at the very last moment in US Open final! What a celebration! Danil is my hero! So I stopped by guys, to express my happiness and gratitude to the Russian player who otherwise is a minor character (still better than Joker) but today he's a hero because he stopped the devil.
In the absence of Fed/Nad and the continued annoying presence of a one who does not deserve to share their status, I lost interest watching tennis. Today I finally got a ray of hope that a new generation of players can finally overcome and subdue that annoying player. And I'm not the only one annoyed by said player. A poll conducted among tennis fans in my country, puts GOAT order as:
Roger Federer 81%
Novak Djokovic 10%
Rafael Nadal 9%
I'm surprised Nad is so low, but the difference Fed-Joker could be even bigger, when considering overall package on and off court achievements.

I don't trust Swiss poll results.

It depends on Danill and if he has COME OF AGE. Let's face it, he has cruised in the Open and has age on his side. He may well have discovered the game has to be played more "between the ears" . Will be interested to see how he progress next year. I agree (sadly) with you regarding Federer.
