Congratulations to Stan Wawrinka! He once again proved that he is a nemesis to Djokovic (at slams) and when he is ON, he is very tough to beat at a Slam.

As for Djokovic, all the physical nagging injuries finally caught up to him at the final. Also, he became Federer at this year's US Open final with an abysmal 3 for 17 (18%) on break points conversion. Finally, he only served 51% for the whole match so there was something wrong with his shoulder.

Here's an interesting stat: Djokovic has 5 losses in slams after winning the 1st set. 4 of those losses came since 2014. And here's another interesting stat: 3 of those losses were against Wawrinka (2014 AO, 2015 RG, and 2016 US Open) and 3 of those losses happened in the final (2014 RG, 2015 RG, and 2016 US Open).

Clearly Nole's the unluckiest player around! So many games that start off in his favor that winds up being tough or outright losses! It's not a choke as much as his opposition rises to the occasion! Stan did it all on his own! :cover :nono

Yes, how much tough draw he had at this event. :snicker Given his physical issues, many decent players would have taken him out in the first week itself.

You are allowed several toilet breaks throughout a 5 setter. A shower is a diff story.

...... and nobody can say for sure that he actually took a shower. It is just a rumor.

No genius; was talking about in general! Nole has tons of opportunities to break or hold serve at love and they wind up being battles or outright loss; NOT JUST HERE in this tourney! :p :ras: :puzzled

Good job by Stan, but needless to say how disappointed I was in Novak' performance.

It wasn't a rumor, it was a reality and during his last match in the USO he took another toilet break and his coach was with him :cover

I find the talk of players being "on" a bit unfortunate, especially in light of the debates on other forums :p Wawrinka is now the only player on tour currently to have won 2 slams over the age of 30.

And that is because he is a beast. Look at his body.
Also, he did not wear down himself through his twenties, when he vastly underperformed.
he is not doing it now either, as he is upset in many events early on, like in masters.

I think the moral of the story is that it helps to shack up with younger women. :lolz:

See Grigor he routinely dates women several years older than himself, look at how much his game has deteriorated. :nono

Congratulations to Stan. He played such great game, beating Nole fair and square. Nole didn't play sub-par, just got too tightened up in the big points. In my eyes, it is pretty much as 2013 USO, he simply got outplayed.

After MTO, I actually rooted for Stan. Opponents walk-out or retire is totally away from your control. I won't put any asteroid if he had won the final. But what the hell is that MTO?

Did you follow the same tournament? Novak's matches:

1R: def Jerzy Janowicz in four sets
2R: walkover (Vesely)
3R: withdrawal during first set (Youzhny)
4R: def Kyle Edmund in three sets
QF: withdrawal after two sets (Tsonga)
SF: def Gael Monfils in four sets
F: lost to Wawrinka in four sets

The highest seed Novak played before Stan was Monfils, who was 10th. He played all of 14 sets in his first six rounds to get to Stan.

I wouldn't blame his loss to Stan on "bad luck."

I already said it was for more than this tourney genius! This happens to Nole a lot; making his job harder than it should be! Remember him 2 service breaks up at '14 Wimbledon against Roger; lost the 4th set in a TB, then serving for it again in the 5th after being broken! Against Nadal in that classic AO in 2012; again serving for it in the 4th, lost it, then had to come back from a break down in the 5th! Lastly 2011; should have been a straight set affair at the USO; serving for it again, and wound up winning in 4! I can come up with instance after instance where it's not always Nole's fault; his opponents take it, but he's as susceptible to these "brain farts" as any of the other gutless tour pros today when up BIG! :deadhorse :cover

Fiero, you criticize every player as gutless or lacking in some way...who are you comparing them to? Every player, great or not, was flawed.

The problem is, all these players have to be good to be ranked in the top 100, but it's amazing how they forget what the HELL they're doing when it gets to the crunch! Sometimes it happens with a lead, other times while behind and they totally disappear! It's just frustrating to see world class athletes look so bad at times; Monfils a case in point! :nono

Djoker needs physical entertainment, his shots were 2 levels under. No strength.

Novak's now gone to 12-9 in GS finals. Not a great ratio, to be fair...

Hey KS, I did a Nole, I meant four instead of five just like Nole meant leg cramps instead of toe blisters:laydownlaughing
