Great win by Roger especially to get it done in straights. There are two worries about facing the Isner's and Karlovic's of the tour: 1. the danger that they present in the form of serve botting their way through a few tiebreaks to win the match and 2. the damage they can do to their opponent's baseline rhythm in the subsequent round.

Getting Gasquet is better for Roger than Berdych who can hit anyone off the court when he's feeling it. Gasquet is playing some of the best tennis of his career so Roger will need to be ready but if Fed comes out flat he can find his way easier vs. Gasquet than the Berd.

Fed may or may not be the GOAT. But, he for sure is GOAT in playing against big servers. :clap

Well, most of my favorites are gone. Maybe Berdych can shock the tennis world this year and finally goes grabs a slam to not have to think about what if for the rest of his life.

ya, he did :snicker

Tsonga and Cilic is the only match that seems to be a big question mark.
Judging by their current form and mount Everest like pressure on Marin I give Jo a slight edge (he didn't lose his serve on this USO!?). Tsonga in 4 sets max. ;)

Of the 8 players who were supposed to make QF, only 3 made it. This I think is rare in Men's tennis. Can someone tell me when was the last GS in which a similar thing happened?

This match has been far more entertaining than expected (Fed-Jizz).

Fed-Jizz LOL :laydownlaughing Just got up a few minutes ago and saw the scores. First time Isner has lost a tiebreak 7-0 in 428 tiebreaks. Another record for Roger  Fed-Jizz indeed. He creamed him in that first tiebreak :snicker

IMO it was about time! It's been embarrassing for the era to have so few people winning all the major events! Bout time indeed! Without looking, I'd imagine those couple years between Sampras' retirement and the ascension of Federer for more diverse wins and plenty of upsets! :dodgy:

I thought it was reference to Federer's youth elixir.

Good win for gasquet, who's been impressing me this summer. Normally the French lads give me more material to mock them, and doubtless he's going to roll over in the quarters, but he did great at Wimbledon and this is another encouraging tourney for him...

Fed feeds Isner a Mini-Bagel (i.e, Bagel in a TB). :clap

Makes you wonder how it is that Murray, one of the best returners in the game, lost to Kevin Anderson when Roger dismantled him 2 weeks ago in Cincinnati. Here's another note for Murray: Stop d!!cking around on the baseline and go to the freaking net! He was 18/24 going to the net, but 24 trips out of 319 points? That's just not going to get it done for him anymore. Djokovic went to the net 45 times against Bautista Agut. He's got to be more aggressive or he's probably never going to win another Slam.

Isner's second serve is better than Rafa's first serve, by a significant margin.

:laydownlaughing Yeah, well, Rafa fans will argue that he's won 14 Slams (albeit 9 on clay where it's really effective) with that serve. Just Nadal's luck by the time he gets his serve and his game ironed out - he'll injure something else or have to have another minor organ removed and be out for 3-4 months again. :snicker

Or maybe Nadal is such an exceptional talent that he's managed to win so much with a unremarkable serve? Yeah, maybe that.

don't want to take a joke too serious - but i'd kind of assume that ElDude meant Rafa's serve right now, not while he was winning slams. and fore sure not during the '13 USO for example.
that said, Isner's 2nd serves amazing today. i think he won a game down from 0-40 using exclusively 2nd ones... actually, at times it seemed like there were better than his 1st serves, because Fed basically manhandled those. :snicker

I wasn't responding to El Dude's comment. I was responding to Busted. El Dude's comment is actually accurate. Isner's second serve is actually a lot trickier than many players' first, let alone Rafa's WTA 2015 serve.

Can't teach that sort of height, so the kick he gets on his second serve can be a lot more difficult to handle than say, a regular 185 kph first serve from David Ferrer.
