JMac repeating his thesis that Rafa has the best volley in the game. I don't quite agree with him. Rafa has a nice touch at the net and he re-directs the ball well, or has a good dropper, but he never actually punches the ball, like a deep hard volley that goes to the baseline. Mostly because he does not go to the net unless he knows it will be an easy put-away. That's also why he has a really good percentage at the net. What he does, he does well, I agree with that, but volley, in the classical sense, like one that probes, asks questions, like Pete's or Edberg's, Rafa simply does not have that shot.

I agree. John Mac enjoys selling the sport, which is ok because he is a commentator. I remember a few years ago when he used to say that he wishes he could play like Roger, considering how good he was himself during his peak in the 80's. John Mac likes making such 'anecdotes'. However, I have to say that John is still the best when it comes to technically explaining tennis to regular viewers or lay persons. I like the way he describes points and how some shots come out the way the do. Having been to diifferent parts of the world, I have been able to listen to tennis commentaries from the likes of Wilander, Fred Stolley, Tim Hernman, Becker and the other guys at BBC, and I can say that John Mac's analyses are the most insightful. I am amazed because former geniuses from other sports do not usually give such insights in their respective sports. And I know that it can be difficult for geniuses to explian things to others, but John does it so well.

Mac is entertaining..UNLESS he is somehow paired with Mr. Carillo. Then he is AWFUL. He goads Mac into non stop, off topic drivel.

He also is out of touch on the topic of modern training and equipment. He calls Luxilon "synthetic gut"...LOL.

AP - Mac contradicts himself 20 times a day depending on what match he's working. He's blows with the direction of the wind.

Gulbis lost to Haider-Maurer. Quite an upset and a disappointment, his draw looked like he could've made the SF with his best game.

Also disappointing his match wasn't on a streamed court.
