Looks like Sloane is handily handling Beck in this first set. Wonder if she can close in 2, or get distracted and lose the 2nd. It's been known to happen

Simo was playing a rookie, she better pick it up, Jana is next and that could be tricky, another player Simona has never faced.

There is nothing to pick. Simo is in good form when she fights.
It will be an EASIER match. You just dont get my player. :D
For you its just another result. I advice better knowledge of the players involved, they are not robots.
During today's match I said that if Simo starts to fight it will get easy and thats what it was.
Now she knows that she wasnt fighting. She knows what her problem was
I knew it for sometime and I posted that in other threads.

Fighting sounds "primitive", "immature", etc.. but thats the essence of any sports.
All sports people must have it at any level. If they neglect it they give big advantage to their opponent.

Si,
It's ignorant to think that you are the only one who knows Simo and the rest of us are just talking from our stomach!
I can assure you I have seen Simo play more than once and I don't mean watching her on TV, I know this is not the same Simona that made Wimby semis or won the inaugural event in Romania. That Simo would have handed the rookie a straight set loss. I repeat again, Simona better pick up her game or she won't make the second week.

Does anyone remember Simo's loss earlier in the year in Paris to Kristina Mladenovic, I warned against an upset there. I am not some casual observer here, I follow the ladies closely.

Jana plays a very similar game to Simo, I saw in person Jana play Petko in SC earlier in the year, it was the final, neither Simo or Jana will be able to hit through the other, there will be lots of rallies and retrieving. If Simo doesn't bring her A game, she will lose to Jana who will bring her A game.
One thing is for sure, Simo will not be able to operate under the radar like she did last year, being #2, she will be on everyone's hit list.

Roger Federer said something the other day that makes a lot of sense, "it's windy at the top".

Pink!  she just lost the USO. no black mean shark mood :nono

She's not going to wear black in the middle of the NY sun. Most players have a day outfit and a night one. She'll likely wear the black one at night.

And guess what, her opponent wears black

It was her opponent's first time and might be her last time on Ashe. She wanted to wear her black evening dress in case she doesn't get another opportunity.

Muguruza out. She does not have the killer instinct that is almost always necessary to be at the very top. Lisicki gets through, but an early exit from her would not surprise me.

So impressed with Date Krumm. To be on the tour at her age is something she should be proud of.

Mugu is slumping just like Genie. She hasn't done anything since her big run at RG.

Sorry to see that. Getting used to a higher level of attention and pressure can be hard to keep up with. Nick Kyrios spoke to that after his win today.

^ She basically said she didn't think she'd have enough time to recover before playing here on Monday (today.) That's a shame, as I think she's had a pretty nice summer. Still, I want Caroline to win, and this is a really tough first round match.

^ Good. Though, I see Ribarikova got the early break in the 2nd. And Flipkens has flipped the script on Errani.

But holds. I think a lot of players have started nervously today, on both sides. Plus, it's become more humid, rather suddenly today.

Maggie is weird. Every year she has about a month when she gets to a final or even wins and then she goes into sleeping mode for the rest of the year
