Simo was not the only one pushed to 3 sets, Kerbie and Petko went there too, all were winners. Zheng too.

I am waiting for Venus/Kimiko in the battle of oldies.

I'm afraid for your health Si Si. This was the 1st round match and you were riled up.
We don't need any heart attacks around here ;)

Big difference between Simona and the other 2. kerber and petko just went through the match and won their 1st set, but Simona went through a mental change after the 1st set that she lost.
She discovered her fight again. If she fights against Masha she wins this time.
It will be the first time that she fights her and not just "play" her...

Sorry, Si Si. My internet went down, so I couldn't get to the forum until a minute ago.

I was able to watch the rest of the match. I knew she would win, and she did, making quite a powerful statement in the last two sets. Well done, Halep! :clap

:D That was a great match from my point of view. I am claiming for last 2 weeks that Simona lost touch with tennis and sports. She lost her fighting spirit because of her success and got spoiled and lazy.
I think that today she got back to the real life of a tennis player. The grind and fight.
I think she knows what was her SIN in last months.. that was "not fighting" and not giving it a go.
She was a robot, she knows it now. Thats why she destroyed Collins in last sets.
I see good things in my USO crystal ball for Simona now.
If she avoids robotism then she has a chance to make it a special event for her :)

Sorry I went MIA for awhile. I'm working at home today and got a support call. Anyway, I'm glad to see Simo came through. Now time for some lunch and I'll check out what Venus is up to.

She was so poor in 1st set and then she made the switch I was begging her to do.
She knew herself whats wrong with her.
When she brings the "kitchen sink", someone like Masha will run fast to hide under the ground :D
She wasnt throwing the kitchen sink since the Doha event AND I MISSED THAT. :(
She is a huge fighter when she wants to

In short, she got lost on the tennis highways of Paris and London and I hope that now she got her spirit back. She was overwhelmed by the events.

WOW!
I haven't seen this forum busy like this for a while.

Simo was playing a rookie, she better pick it up, Jana is next and that could be tricky, another player Simona has never faced.

That's great news. I have no delusions of her winning the tournament, but I'd love for her to get beyond the first round!

It's pretty amazing she's 44, and still going strong in singles and doubles. I respect her, too.

There is nothing to pick. Simo is in good form when she fights.
It will be an EASIER match. You just dont get my player. :D
For you its just another result. I advice better knowledge of the players involved, they are not robots.
During today's match I said that if Simo starts to fight it will get easy and thats what it was.
Now she knows that she wasnt fighting. She knows what her problem was
I knew it for sometime and I posted that in other threads.

Fighting sounds "primitive", "immature", etc.. but thats the essence of any sports.
All sports people must have it at any level. If they neglect it they give big advantage to their opponent.

"Fighting" sounds "motivated", "competitive", "driven" -- all good things. Not primitive or immature.

Nadal, Serena, and Sharapova are perfect examples of players who fight right to the end. They don't give up until the umpire calls, "Game, set, match." This is the kind of "fight" Halep needs to develop.

Venus wins the 2nd set 63...Venus still has work to do in her game, she appears sluggish to me.Date_Krumm is an old school player and dosent give Vee much pace.

Believe me she has that fighting spirit JUST AS MUCH as any of the names you mentioned, maybe more! The problem with her was that she drifted into technique, styles, etc and started enjoy the easy life. You need mental energies to keep the fighting spirit. Its not easy to maintain it all the time. It comes and goes even at the best elite players. You naturally try to escape fighting because it drains mentally.
But, I think that Simona understands it better now. She is still learning how to deal with her position at the top. She enjoyed the glamour, now she knows that without a fight she will fail.
Her chance to beat Masha is by fighting, not "by playing".
Simona is a great fighter but she just didnt use it lately. You dont follow her from since she was top 60 so you dont know that. She is a great fighter when her brain is in it.
She doesnt need to "develop" that as you say. She is one of the biggest fighters I know :)
Those who dont follow her closely dont know that yet.

Good lord Venus. I know you haven't forgotten how to close out a match! From 5-0 to 6-3 (barely).
