Venus Rocks At The Net and saves a BP in her opening service game in the 2nd set and holds serve.
Vee quick to the net and puts it away now with 2 BP and she breaks, leads 2-0,2nd set
Love watching Vee play like this....Vintage Vee,...............not the DF though Vee.What a difference a first makes,Vee FH working well and she consolidates the break leads 3-0 2nd set

BTW Venus ordered a coffee after the 1st set:)

Elina breaks Vee,error at the net from Vee? unbelievable,Elina to serve 2-3

3 games all.

Vee serve again letting her down and Elina with 2BP....Hell a DF from Vee and Elina breaks,Vee's ball toss is all over the place?

Elina 4-3,consolidates the break and leads 5-3,Elina has won 14 of the last 16 points in control now.

MP for Elina as Vee makes error at the net,Vee with a cross court BH winner,Elina claps too good.

2nd MP for Elina,Vee FH wide, erased great defense from Vee,with a fhand again

3rd MP for Elina,Vee BH long, saved, good 1st serve from Vee.

4th MP for Elina FH winner return down the line, erased again good 1st serve from Vee

Great ROS low to Vee's feet from Elina and gets her 5th MP

Great volley from Vee and erases the MP,Elina cannot believe, either can I:)

This game has gone 15mins

Vee with a volley and Finally Holds

Elina to serve for the match at 5-4

Elina Svitolina d Venus Williams 64 64.....in a well contested match

Venus had her chances, her first serve let her down at crucial times in the match and her UFE also cost her.Bad luck Vee! she fought hard till the end.

It is really time to retire for Vee. Why is she still playing? It only hurts her legacy when she loses to all kinds of crazy players in early rounds. Let us face it. She is not a contender for Slams anymore and she has enough money. Time to call it quits.

Maybe Venus and Roger will retire together they are around same age.Great Story.

BTW Elina is the 5th seed here,Venus unseeded, actually a well contested match, she still loves to compete, she will retire on her own terms.,just like Roger.

I am not a fan of Keys, still she played well in Cinncy and having no trouble with Zhu,won 1st set 64 and leads 4-1 2nd set

Keys wins 64 61

I don't think she can hurt her legacy at all, and it's an amazing one. I hopes she plays as long as she wants to.

I do like Keys, and she's rounding into form nicely for this USO.

Actually with her draw she could make the final here,I think she found her form in Cinncy as long as that holds up here she can be a contender for the title

Yes, Halep-Keys in the final with Halep winning sounds about right. Would love to see Halep winning more slams. If she wins USO only AO will be left to conquer.

.

There is no shame in losing to Svitolina. But, Vee has lots of losses to all kinds of crazy players recently.

Vee and Roger may be of the same age, but Roger is still a contender for slams whereas Vee is not. When was the last time
Vee won a slam?

If you are a journeywoman it does not matter when you retire. Someone like Vee should aim to retire at the right time.

Hasn’t it been speculated for a while that she wants to play Tokyo olympics with Serena or something so she’s hanging around until then

As I said Venus will retire on her own terms, regardless if she is a contender for slams, she just said in her press conference she loves to compete, she competed well against Elina.
