Surprised to see Kuznetsova struggling with Ahn. I thought she might have a hangover from Cincy. Even if it was a week ago. But I figured she'd deal with Ahn. And maybe she'll come back. But not looking great tonight. Ahn would love to take advantage here and get herself some much needed prize money. But also. If she wins this. Stephens is supposed to win tonight and supposed to be beating ladies like Ahn. But hasn't been doing that at all lately. So she could suddenly find herself in the third round even if Stephens deals with Kalinskaya tonight. Here's hoping that's not the case.

Kuznetsova now having a physio do an evaluation. Looks like her hip. I'd often say that I hate when players do this. Try to throw off their opponent who is on fire. But with Kuznetsova at 34 and having had every injury in the book, I don't feel that way. She probably just wants to try to get the physio to loosen herself up. He's messing about with her hip.

Ahn up and about trying to keep herself warm. So good on her.

Well good for Kristie Ahn. Kuznetsova looked not 100% fit today. But probably fit enough to win this thing if she had won the first set. Good on Ahn for fighting for the first set and taking care of business in the second set. She's been around a while now (27). But I think this is her first trip to the second round of a slam, based on what I think I heard one of the commentators say. 15 years on, Kuznetsova not the player she was when she won this thing in 2004. Still. She made the Cincy final. Rolled back the years for a week. Got some much needed ranking points to keep her hanging around the top 50 for another year (63 right now). Lost in the first round here last year to Venus. So won't be losing any points. She's probably just glad to be back from the injury.

I'm OK w/ that. She could beat Naomi if Osaka doesn't serve well. She hasn't impressed me much since Aus.
I was glad to see Naomi find her game today, after a rough start. I'll have a hard time if they meet, but I'd take it.

So Vika breaks for a second time to take the first set against Sabalenka. Looking to reassert herself as the top Belarussian. Definitely pulling for her to finish off the upset. But we'll see how Sabalenka responds. Could turn into a battle.

Nadal has just about finished of Millman so we should get to see Stephens try to keep her season alive here shortly.

I’m disappointed Vika lost. She was looking really good. I hope she can find her way back to the top eventually.

Good Morning!

Just want to recap on a couple of shock losses from yesterday's play

I know I should not have got my expectations high for Sveta? still after making the final of Cinncy I thought a least she could have made the 2nd rd? being a Sveta fan since day 1 has been hard.

Sloane Stephens? back to the drawing board for you, young lady, this year has been a disaster, lets see if getting back with your former coach Murray can find your game again.

Azarenka had break in the 3rd set, though ending up losing the match,I thought that would be a hard match, this year her draws have been 'horrific'.

Showers around at the moment,so the outside courts have been delayed. No play on outside courts till 2pm.

On Ashe the No3 seed Karolina Pliskova is up a early break against Bolkvadze leads 4-1

These inside conditions suit Pliskova's game to a tee.

Pliskova 1st set 61.More solid performance by the qualifer Bolvadze in the 2nd set

Pliskova d Bolvadze 61 64.

Agree with all, was very surprised to see both Kuznetsova and Stephens lose.

With regards to Vika she seems to lack something of her former self, she is around, she is fighting, but just not winning enough. She needs to become seeded player for a start and with some favourable draw and newfound self belief she might go deeper. Perhaps next year.

And Sabalenka surprised me in a good way for not crumbling, especially after going early in Wimbledon, was it R1? I picked her to reach semis, but knew she could go out even in R1 or soon after. She was never deep in a slam so maybe it's her moment to do well. We will see, next one is Putintseva and that's a tough opponent again.

Vika has not been able to play the whole tour after having her baby and also off court drama's with her son's father, lack of match play to start with.I like that she has been playing doubles with Ash Barty, they have won doubles title together, helping singles play. For Vika to get a seeded she needs to win matches on a consistent basis and play the tour full time.

No play on outside courts now till 4pm.

Just tuning into watch Venus v Elina on Armstrong

Elina with a early break leads Vee 4-2

Vee's first serve missing and over hitting,Elina with dtl Fhand winner breaks Vee and will serve for the 1st set 5-2....Venus needs to clean up her UFE ASAP,had 2 BPs,errors cost her the break
Okay Vee with another BP,Vee's is clenching her teeth, needs to attack the 2nd serve of Elina
Vee breaks,Elina FH long
Vee to serve 3-5
Elina with SP again Vee overhitting,Vee needs to come into the net more, stop these long rallies
Vee FH winner, deuce, crap a DF from Vee,
SP3 for Elina,Vee watch your serve? Elina FH long, deuce,Yay a first serve from Vee.Vee holds
Elina will attempt for the 2nd time 5-4 to serve for the 1st set.

Elna 1st set 64

Venus must tidy up her UFE ............23 UFE 9 winners
Elina UFE 12 4 winners.
