After a hectic day of upsets, I expect a relatively quiet second day with almost no upsets.
I throw in the following two matches as potential upsets. But, I am not very confident to project them though.

1. Petkovic vs. Caroline Garcia
2. Schmidlova vs. Julia Georges.

Well GSM, Safarova woke up wanting to take in the sights and smells of NYC this week, as she's about to bow out. She must be hurt or sick or something

Safarova gone!
And it looks like Baczinsky is on her way, 1 set down 0-3 in the second !!

Is there a subconscious thing going on where folks really want Serena to make history ;)

Lucie was speaking about exhaustion last week at New Haven, she never should have played, especially with singles and dubs on her schedule here at the Open.

Well, at least she and BSM can focus on winning their 3rd Slam this year

I am going to go out in a limb and declare, anyone whom played Connecticut is not walking away with the US Open trophy.

Some of the WTA players and their teams are dumber than dirt when it comes to scheduling. I will never understand why a Top 10 player would play a tournament before a slam.

You have to cut Lucie a little slack, she's a newly crowned top 10er so isn't schooled in the ways of scheduling for slam success. Everyone else is definitely dumber than dirt. :snicker

I'll go one step further and say they aren't walking away w/ the runner-up plate either.

Agreed. A number of them have already lost -- Safarova, Pliskova, Bacsinszky, Begu, Diyas, Riske.

The US Open is probably the most demanding of the slams, and I can't fathom playing the week before, unless, you are unable to play earlier lead up events.

The humidity alone is very taxing then throw in 90+ temperatures and if one is not 100% physically fit.....

That tournament should be someone who is on the satellite or challenger tour , not for players in the top 100 unless they are coming off an injury for a tune up .

The number of upsets is halved. We had 6 yesterday. Today, we had to be content with just 3.
Lucie, Timea and Begu.

We can expect 1.5 upsets tomorrow.

I know she's never done great in NY, but dang, Petra looked sharp last night. And she has an incredibly friendly draw. I like the possibility of a Petra/Viki semi, and I think that would be a great one for fans of the game.

Of course I realize I just doomed her to a 3 set upset loss to out-of-the-top-100 Nicole Gibbs in the Round of 64.

Sloan is playing against CoCo V. Sloane is playing like her feet in cement.. She may be going home.

She is going home. Coco Puffs serving for it. Who told ES to wear that belly top?

KS.. ES isn't going to be a big time player, I would suggest for all her fans to lower their expectations for her to be a grand slam champion. Sloane has regressed. Sloane had the footwork of USTA 4.0 player. Sloan bh is just to block the ball back in play not really striking the ball with a purpose. If I was her coach, I would suggest for him to have her go to Coney Island beach, find a nice secluded spot, make like an ostrich and stick her head in. At that point maybe that little girl will listen. She had no business loosing to Coco. Sloane as usual played down to the level of her competition.

But isn't she always losing to Coco. Isn't the H2H like 5-1.

I'm not expecting her to be a big match player, but a R1 loss to Puffy at her home slam is unacceptable.

It's also the entitle girl's home slam...No. Can't stand coco.
