A thread to discuss potential and actual upsets during this years Australian Open.

Day one: Ferrer v Rublev is going to be an upset either way. I don't expect much from Estrella Burgos against Nadal.

Pella x Thiem. As I posted before, Thiem is the (not so) young (anymore) player who I have more "faith", but he is still off the mark on HC, specially fast hards, and Pella is playing quite well. 3x1 for the Argentinian, who is making R4 on my bracket (maybe quarters, not sure).

Ferrer is seeded 33 and Rublev is seeded 32 and so if Rublev wins, it technically won't be an upset. I do expect Rublev to win it.

Also, I expect Bhambri to take out Baghdatis. Baggy is out of shape and almost close to retirement and was seen playing in
challengers etc recently.

Isner down 2 sets to 1 to M. Ebden.
Isner looking like he's still not over the jet lag. Now, to his credit, Johnny Mac has gone straight from the plane to the commentary booth. THAT is admirable. The US-to-Oz jet-lag/brain-freeze is not for sissies.

Isner down 2 sets to 1 to M. Ebden.

For some reason I thought Isner was vulnerable before stepping out on the court! I looked at the other Brit being a challenge, but never thought he'd defeat Anderson down 1-2 in sets! It went 5 grueling sets and Anderson couldn't hold the guy off! Murray must be very proud of them; or jealous!  :ptennis:

Hardly 15 days into the year and Isner has already lost twice to folks he is not supposed to lose.

Is Iznah losing really an upset? He's terrible lately and may still be on his honeymoon.

Did he get married? Not like that's actually an excuse, though, for looking tired and uninterested.

Sock attempting to follow in the foot steps of Isner. Loses the first set 1-6 to Sugita.
