Yup Moxie. Djokovic was too good for everyone that year, not just Nadal.

That's what makes it one of the greatest tennis years ever. Players find The Zone for a match, or a tournament, but Novak was in it for most of a year. As much as I was suffering Rafa's losses to him, it was pretty stunning to watch.

Interesting that 2011 was the closest Nadal ever came to winning Miami, a 3rd set tie-breaker vs. Djokovic :s

I forget the specifics, but he was within a couple of points of winning it at least once (if not twice) in the 2005 final against Federer. Technically, I think that was closer than he got in 2011.

2011: 6-4, 3-6, 6-7(4)
2005: 6-2, 7-6(4), 6-7(5), 3-6, 1-6

Fun times :D

There will be no change in the top 11 positions of the WTF race that will be released tomorrow,
the 22nd of September. This is because none of them played in Metz, the only tournament of
last week.

Tsonga who was a long shot for qualification became an even longer shot now after failing
to add substantial points in Metz.

The situation remains the same. Three of the following six are most likely to make it
for the remaining spots.

1. Kei Nishikori 3675
2. David Ferrer 3535 ----- 140
3. Thomas Berdych 3510 ----- 25
4. Milos Raonic 3425 ----- 85
5. Grigor Dimitrov 3335 ----- 90
6. Andy Murray 3155 ----- 180

Among these six, three are in action next week. Murray and Ferrer in Shenzhen and
Nishikori in Kualalumpur. So, there might be some shuffling around of positions next week.

A win tomorrow will see Murray overtake Grigor in the race and move within touching distance of Raonic.

Ferrer, Raonic and Nishikori are playing Tokyo where Wawrinka is top seed. Berdych, Dimitrov and Murray are all playing in Beijing, with a much tougher draw including Djokovic, Nadal and Cilic. Next week should, then, present an opportunity for Daveed, Milos and Kei to eke out a few more points than the other contenders.

Hope he makes it to WTF (even though the Britishers would not want him there).

You've kind of made that same dig on two threads. Perhaps you should ask the British if they're supporting Murray. The ones I know are. (They're English.) I know the Brits are tough on their own, but when you have a sports champion, a lot of things do tend to be forgiven.

Britishers? You can't just make up words. :)

To be honest the fallout from Andy's tweet has been nothing like I expected. The vast majority of the articles written were very positive. The only really nasty responses were from people that didn't like him in the first place. They're no loss.

Not sure what you mean by the British not wanting him at the WTF.

Here are the race rankings that will be relased tomorrow the 29th of September.
The four in bold have qualified by accumulating enough points. The one in italics is
guaranteed a spot by virtue of being a GS winner.

Three of the last six will qualify. The race is getting really tight with just 510 points
separating these six contenders and more importantly with just 200 points separating
the last five.

Andy Murray has moved ahead of Grigor. While there is no change in the
position of Nishikori, he has strengthened his standing and is beginning to clearly
separate himself from the other contenders.

1 Novak Djokovic SRB 8150
2 Roger Federer SUI 7020
3 Rafael Nadal ESP 6645
4 Stan Wawrinka SUI 4795

5 Marin Cilic CRO 4000

6 Kei Nishikori JPN 3845
7 David Ferrer ESP 3535
8 Tomas Berdych CZE 3510
9 Milos Raonic CAN 3425
10 Andy Murray GBR 3405
11 Grigor Dimitrov BUL 3335

Ferrer's loss to Granolers sure tightens things up. There will be some changes in 7-11 for what looks like the last 2 spots, as Cilic and Kei have some breathing room, after Beijing and Tokyo. More will be revealed in the next few days. I would like to see GRIGOR make it to WTF, good thing there's more than 1 tourney left.

Yeah, Ferrer's last 2 tournament results have been poor and he's doing his best to not qualify for the WTF. He probably won't if there's any justice so we can watch someone else who'll do better there as he didn't win a single match there last year.

I agree with you. There are seems to be only two open spots for all practical purposes
and the five folks numbered 7-11 are fighting for it. The fight is going to be fierce as only
200 points separate these five guys. Expect a see-saw of fortunes after every week and
lot of unpredictability as to who will get these two spots.

I would prefer that Murray and Grigor get the last two spots.
