Yep, I guess our Kumbaya moment is over.
Never kumbaya with people who think that a tennis player dressing up like the village people is the height of fashion. Write that down and don’t forget it! :lol6:

I don't think Rafa's career is over, but I also am not entirely sure Roger's is, either. I still have a tiny sliver of hope that he has one more run in him - maybe not a Slam title, but at least some good performance. I'm not an all or nothing guy, and would love to see him at least hoist another Basel trophy.

As for Rafa, I think he has a good chance of winning another Slam or two, but I also think the chances that he starts experiencing greater difficulties are greater. But as of this writing, he's still my favorite to win RG, even if Novak is right behind him.

One more thought. In terms of my expected outcomes for 2022, Novak is the only one that I still think is likely to win more big titles than any of the younger guys, and the only one who I'd rank among the top two likely victors at all four of the Slams.

I'd rank Rafa behind Novak, Medvedev, and Zverev at the AO. He's still #1 at RG, but just a hair over Novak. He's down the list a bit at Wimbledon in the top 5-10 range, though probably still top 5 at USO. I'd rank Novak #1 or 2 at all four Slams. Roger maybe sneaks into the top 5 at Wimbledon, but that's it.

You will never let that one go. To your credit. For all of those trying to award style-points in the GOAT debate. :lol3:

Good for you. Obviously, there's no reason to believe that Rafa is done yet. But if Roger is willing to come back, and he is, then his nation should back him. I'm just laughing a bit, because so many Federer fans never wanted Roger and Rafa to be spoken of in the same voice, in terms of history. Federberg used to get after me for that, especially. But now that Roger is on his last legs/knees, there seems a general concession...amongst some...that if Roger is done, so is Rafa, and we may as well just give over to Novak. Here is where I laugh a bit behind my hand, because, if some didn't want them to be twin sons from different mothers before, how come they are now? Rafa, as you correctly say, is very likely not done.

Everyone has been looking to see how Rafa comes back from injury lay-off for 10 years now. So we shall see.

And once again, we ask the question: will the youngsters step up?

On top of that, how much longer can Novak withstand the onslaught and stay on top? There are lots of outside pressures, which he's not always great with. Maybe it's time to do the 2022 Predictions thread, but with Roger absent at least until grass, Rafa and Novak likely to lay low on some MS, wlll the likes of Meddie, Zed and the Greek or others build up some head of steam?

That was the single most ugly, squirmy, smarmy, narcissistic lapse in taste I’ve seen in tennis - and I lived through the Agassi denim shorts era. Imagine Pete Sampras or Bjorn Borg taking the court wearing a sailor suit and carrying a handbag…

Ultimately, it is God's wish. If God wants Djokovic to have all the records and be the GOAT then that's what will happen and we have to accept it. Human beings have no say in this matter. We can only pray that he gives strength to the crestfallen and for the victors an olive branch to lend to the defeated.

Another blunder. A huge number of people in this world think that the Olympic Games are the biggest sporting event.

It used to be anyway! I haven't cared for the OG's in decades, just watching the Figure Skating every 4 years if competitive! The commercialism took over back in the 80's! His Excellency, Juan Antonio Samaranch corrupted the process as the IOC grew with outright bribery going on to host a Games! I was so glad we didn't get the 2016 Summer Games! I would have had to leave Chicago for a few weeks! :pleading-face: :anxious-face-with-sweat::thumbs-down:

It means a lot to bring any kind of notoriety to Serbia! It's being proud of one's home and we can see how he is in "team events!" :pleading-face: :fearful-face: :-)2
Lol. So you think in athletics the Diamond League is bigger than the Olympics.

So you think it's a blunder that Novak said that, but you agree that most people think that the Olympics are the biggest sports event. I'm not saying that that makes Nadal better because he has the gold medal. All I would say is that each of the Big 3 is going to have some things that the other 2 don't have. If you weren't so anxious for Novak to have them all, or diminish the ones he doesn't have, you could see that.

So? "One swallow does not make spring" says my people in Serbia. It takes a lot to be a GOAT. As No1e has, for example.

Andy Murray is the GOAT, because he's won Olympic Gold twice, more than Nadal, Djokovic, Federer, Sampras, Borg, Becker, McEnroe, Connors, Laver, Rosewall, Gonzales, and Tilden combined.
