Glad to hear that, Dave, everything that helps you is good. Would love to read your column.

Take care! :hug
Trying to get pdf from the Citizen Paper so I can post it somewhere here or Trent can find a spot for it. I enjoyed the events of the day. I am keeping strong.

Hi everyone,

I spoke with Dave last night. He said to tell everyone hello, and to thank all of you for the kindness you've shown him.

He also sent me a copy of his latest column, so I'm including it as an attachment below.

Hey Dave,

As you know, I hold to a strict regime of silence during the slams, which has been solely responsible for Rafa doing so well :snicker, as well as many other personal benefits, such as protecting myself from my baser instincts to row, fight, argue, claw and chew on fellow posters here during the most uptight, strained and violent upheavals in the tennis year: the Grand Slams.

But I can't help but make a lone exception here, to thank you for your generosity in showing your column, after I'd requested it. I'm always glad to read tennis articles, especially ones like this, which tell us about players who don't always get the full limelight attention they properly deserve. So much so, that Wozniak is unfortunate enough to be confused with Caroline Wozniaki. But I like the way you humanise her, because they are all ordinary humans doing extraordinary things, and often with a light touch, and a smile. I appreciate you sharing this!

I know things are getting very difficult for you now, no words can console, but I wish you all the best in your treatments, I'll remember you in my prayers, for what they're worth. You're thought of very highly around here, and we're all the better for having come in contact with you... :hug

I have always liked Alexsandra Wozniak and wondered what "happened" to her. To say that she is the forgotten Canadian is an understatement. Bouchard gets all the press from the WTA and Popsil and Roanic have the potential to be slam winners (especially Roanic). Wozniak as kinda fallen by the way-side when one thinks of Canadian tennis. Its good to hear that she is trying to come back from her injury.

Great article Dave,
I did see Wozniak at Bank of the West here in the Bay Area and thought she was a decent player. I was wondering whether she had just fallen off but it make sense now that she was injured. I enjoy articles like these that personalize these players. Sometimes it's easy to sit on a forum and make comments about folks you don't know...articles like these always bring me back to reality.

Hope you're doing as well as possible on a separate note

This is not a thread I ever thought I would have to send to all of you. After a few weeks of illness, I have been told that I have liver cancer, not sure the severity of it yet. But, as you can understand I will be out commission tennis wise for sometime. Still have not cancelled Eastbourne, in late June.
I have been with all of you for sometime now and I just felt you should all know. I am a real fighter gone through a number of major illness's but this will be my biggest challenge. Do a little tennis prayer for me.
Best,
Dave:)

Dave,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. It's daunting after so many climbs to find an even higher peak awaiting you. Be strengthened and encouraged in your faith. Have friends around that make you laugh always. Rest when you need to, and continue to eat well - even when you're not hungry or can't really taste the food.

Dave, I have almost forgotten Wozniak (even though I have seen her play before) and your article reminded of her again. I do remember the Wozniacki-Wozniak match that you mention, an umpire's nightmare. I don't know whether you are aware of this; we now recently had a Sousa vs. Souza match in ATP. I believe even the first names of these Sousa's are the same with only difference
being in the spelling of their last name. Nice article, I enjoyed it. Best wishes to you.

Dave, great article. For a long time I was wondering where Alex was I thought she had retired, but I did not hear anyone say anything about her retirement. Hopefully she'll come back and start kicking some butts. Me and my sister use to get the names mixed up too and we use to say "no the one without the "i".

With sadness, I have to announce that Dave Rubenstein died a few days ago. There's an obituary on his local newspaper's website.

He was an original member of Tennis Frontier, who joined the first day. He contributed to the site not only with his posts in the WTA forum, but also through his photographs which we used in blogs and news posts.

He will be missed.

So sad to hear this. I hadn't seen him post lately so I was concerned. My family had been praying for him since he had told us about his illness. R.I.P. Dave. Prayers for his wife and family today.

That is really truly heartbreaking news. Very sad to hear that. I hope his family knows his commentary reached far beyond his small town and theres people all over the world here thinking of him.
