Andy scored a monumental win over his rival today. It was his first win over Djokovic on clay.

This may create some near term opportunities for Andy. He has to keep it going obviously.

This was a decisive victory. Andy left nothing to chance. He was brutally efficient from the baseline and artful at the net as he was 13 for 17 there.

6-3, 6-3 is a dominating performance.

Andy can start feeling more confident and more optimistic about his chances at RG and at Wimbledon.

I have to admit I've greatly underestimated Murray on clay and figured he wouldn't come close to duplicating last year. If someone would have told me at the start of 2014 that his best results the past few years would come on clay I'd have said they were off their rocker.

He has a legit chance at RG, today doesn't make him the favorite by any means but he is right behind Nadal as a favorite IMO, and if Rafa is drawn on Nole's half his chances become a lot better.

As for Wimbledon I'd say he always has a good chance there. I will probably get flack for saying this but I think he is a pretty solid favorite vs. Djokovic on grass flat out. Facing Roger on grass is still not an easy task but I think Federer beating Andy last year was a blessing for Djokovic.

Andy is quite good on grass. I think this win creates some near term opportunities for him.

we will just have to see how he leverages this win which I think was absolutely monumental.

he did not just win. he crushed his opponent who is one of the greatest to ever play the sport.

It is a nice win for sure. Would it help him in a best of 5 final at RG against Novak if that's what it comes down to? Probably a little but it'd be a whole different ballgame, one I wouldn't favor him to win. In general I favor Nole heavily on the slow hardcourts and clay but favor Andy on grass. They've played twice on grass and they've been straightforward affairs, Andy's huge 1st serve is a weapon there even if he doesn't get a great percentage in. Fast hardcourts is somewhat neutral territory for them but at this point I give Nole a slight edge there too.

there are some articles out today declaring pretty much the same thing we suggested here a while back.

don't count out Andy Murray for RG. It can happen.

he is fit enough and has sufficient physicality.

he is consistent enough.

and now he has sufficient belief.

He was all that and more. Brutally efficient. Good wording.

the resurgence comes just after he fired Mauresmo....is it a coincidence ??? i dont think so, he's now free to do what he has to do on court and he does it well

Lol! Too much credit is given to coaches when things go well, and it seem far too much of what goes wrong is blamed on them as well!

or..

Murray could just be benefiting from a below average Djokovic, an recently out-of-his-prime Nadal and a out-of-his-prime-and-injured Federer.

There is an outside chance of Andy taking RG and Wimbledon.

He has to be ready and prepared to capitalize on his opportunities should Djokovic manage to stumble.

I agree. The very fact that he's so high in the conversation at the French is evidence. (Better than small chance at RG, JLLB. He's probably the #2 bet, at this point.) And that's not about the attrition of others. Let's not forget how he beat Novak in Rome a few weeks ago.

I called this one a while back. Andy produced the results on clay to improve his chances at RG.

He just has to avoid getting into anymore protracted 5 set battles now until the final.

Andy must be taken seriously now.

You did. And this is Andy's chance to show his chops, whatever happens in the top half. He has to show how much he wants it now.

3 straight semifinal experiences for Andy at RG.

He is going to snatch the RG crown in 4 long sets.
