who is keeping track? how many matches has Andy won in a row now going back to Queens?

its a shame he could not close the sale in Paris (RG).

Have you noticed how much trouble he's having at these Olympics? He's nominally the favorite, but I think he's less likely than he seemed to win the Gold here. USO is another story, though.

affirmative.

he has been having to dig deep.

big day for him tomorrow. nishikori is a tough customer.

should be a good match.

my own perception/feeling is that nishikori may a bit fatigued tomorrow. he expends considerable energy at just 5 foot 10.

andy really missed a golden opportunity of a lifetime at RG. he made it to the final an he even snatched the first set.

had he been able to snatch 1 of the next 2 sets, the story may have turned out different.

djokovic got going and could not be stopped after that.

the key for andy was to take either the first 2 sets or 2 of the first 3 sets.

The situation has become even more clear with Murray continuing his torrid winning streak in Vienna and setting his sights on the #1 spot.

As can be seen from the chart above, Murray will topple Novak to attain #1 as early as the Monday after Paris if he makes the final and Novak does not go past the quarter finals, or if Andy wins the title and Novak doesn't go past the semis.

Of course, that won't be the last word for the Year End rankings, and the World Tour Finals could be the deciding factor, along with Murray's 275 Davis Cup points dropping 11/28.

One wonders if tennis superstar coaches B.Becker or I.Lendl will show up in the player box along the way. :)

Regardless of the Year End ranking, with Nole defending over 4000 points from Australia through Miami, and Murray less than 1500, Murray's arrival at #1 seems only a matter of time.

Inevitably,

It's still the other half of the Big Four vying for the top. Maybe next year will see a shift in of other players as the real Top 4-5? But probably not the top 2 yet.

And with a rather anti-climatic walkover over the injured Raonic, Andrew Barron Murray, OBE will be the new World #1 on Monday Nov. 7th.

On August 8th, he was 6,000 points behind Novak Djokovic. Novak's fall and Andy's rise in just 3 months may be unprecedented.

Congratulations to Andy, his team, and his fans.
I would say a knighthood may be deserved for the Highlander and it seems Old King Roger concurs.

Andy is the same Andy, it's the coach that made the difference. Just look at the timing when it all happened, and the timing of their previous relationship.

Can't be coincidence. Lendl made something out of a very flawed player.
