Roger is finishing in the top 3, possibly higher. Maybe bold pick would be Wawrinka into the top 4 at some point this year but he won't finish there.

Any of the resident stattos know the permutations of how the rankings might be after the AO based on the results of the semis and final?

Murray is already out of top 4. Nothing short of winning the AO will put Fed in top 4.
No matter what happens, Nadal is #1 and Novak is # 2 after AO.

So Ferrer is #3 and DP #4 as of now?

As of now JMDP is #3 and Ferrer is #4. JMDP sucked at AO last year too
and so current sucking did not cost him, whereas Ferrer made it to SF last
year, but only QF this year.

Kind of hard to believe that DP is #3 when you think of his results the last year. He has 2 MS finals, and the Wimbledon semi, but no points at RG, and just the 2nd round at AO and USO. Am I missing something?

JMDP is king of 500's last year. He won 4 different 500 tournaments. That is how
he is at #3 (apart from Wimby SF).

Ok, I figured that might be the case, even then I'm still surprised to see Murray fall below him. He won Wimbledon, Miami, and has QF at AO and USO. I guess flat out missing last Fall would do it though.

RE: 2014 Rankings - observations and speculations

Here is the info in a nutshell

If RAFA wins (indpendent of his final opponent), top 4 will be

1. Rafa 2. Novak 3. JMDP 4. DF

If Anybody else wins (independent of their final opponent), top 4 will be

1. Rafa 2. Novak 3. Winner of AO 4. JMDP

So, whatever happens Rafa is #1, Novak is #2.
Also, whatever happens Murray is out of Top 4 and JMDP in in Top 4.

You are channeling Johnny Mac who predicted that for end of last year and it was not even close.
I like Grigor also, but you never forget how imovable the rankings are for many years by now and not only at the very top.
Last year we have had only one single entry and exit in and out of the top 10, Tipsarevic replaced by Wawrinka and that was it. No other movements for 52 weeks. And that is a lot of time.
There are slow shifts, but everything takes time these days.
I hope Grigor makes the top 15, then he will need more stamina IMO to get him further up.

In the second scenario, does that mean that if Berdych or Wawrinka win the tournament, they will break into the top 3?

Andy Murray actually is not only out of the top 5, he will go down directly to be 6th after the AO, because the winner of Berdanka tonight, will jump over him.
So, in case Roger loses to Rafa, we may have not just only 2 of the big 4 out of the top 4, but they will also be ranked 6 and 8 respectively.
The draws will continue to be interesting in masters and majors.

Whoa... That would be unexpected. But I guess you could say the same about them winning the AO.
