So players were asked to build a perfect player with best aspect of everything, forehand they went with Roger (a few Nadal as well), backhand Novak (some liked Stan's), serve Isner, movement Monfils, volley went to Roger, fighting spirit they all went with Rafa, and the strongest player they mostly voted Rafa (including Roger). Seems like they are pretty agreeable with what the fans think, and Rafa is certainly seen as incredible because of his physique and mental prowess. Before Moxie comes out whining that it's a putdown on Rafa, it is what the players themselves have said.

Roger gets the nod for fh and volley, and but is the probably seen as the best non-superserver.....i mean Isner and Karlovic certainly have better serves but they are like never seen before kind of super server, of course only their incredible height make it possible. For mere humans (who don't stand 2.1m tall), Roger is pretty much as good as it gets. Novak seems to have awesome balance though, as his serve is solid, fh is probably just a notch below Roger's, best bh in business, volleys not bad now, movement is one of the best in history, and he can fight as hard as Rafa on his day.

One thing not asked, who has the best on court smart? seems pretty important, as Monfils moves fastest but clearly plays pretty dumb tennis a lot of times.

Nadal on clay is the closest thing to a perfect player we will ever see.

I don't see why I would whine, as Rafa comes off quite well. Tennis IQ is your question: Murray has often been mentioned in that department, as well as Rafa for problem-solving mid-match. Speaking of Murray, he has a great lob.

I think you mean uncle Toni for problem solving mid match. :popcorn

Murray, Hewitt and Nalbandian for lobs. Take your pick. All were great. I say were including Murray despite the fact that he's still playing because his best days are long gone.

Prime Federer for forehand consistency. Back then in his prime, the point was essentially over once he had good positioning to hit a forehand.

In terms of beastly forehands that weren't always consistent but unplayable at their best, I'd add Gonzalez, Blake, Del Potro 2009 pre injuries and Soderling.

You and GSM can't resist a cheap dig. That kind of simplicity doesn't get a guy 18 Majors.

Nadal for problem solving and tennis IQ, and I don't think it's particularly close.

Mere points can make all the difference. As they say in Tesco: "Every little helps!"

Murray's best days may be behind him, but Hewitt and Nalbandian are retired. I don't think the OP was including players not on option today.

Across 18 Majors? 35 MS's? If you want to compare that with the Tesco level of excellence, go for it.

For as much as he does get credit for this from the commentators/sportswriters, he gets basically no credit for this around here. Curious.

He does. Everyone here mentions it except for Front and Darth because I mean, come on...

The perfect player has no fans -- at least not on line fans. And no fans that make that "tataratatá" sound imitating a horn or whatever. And no fans with cardboard signs. And no celebrity fans -- that is important. No fans that dance during change overs.

then you tell us what single aspect can win you 18 majors? its the combination of things, including you know....Tony's signal. But of course everything can be excused, when you are a fan of his.
