I bet a lot of people would have said 2-3 good years from 2009, and here we are in 2013 winning 22 straight matches on hardcourt. There is no blueprint for Nadal. He's the first of his kind.

This sounds like the sales pitch for a terminator.:laydownlaughing
Clay Death said:what would you do if you were nadal right now?
some reports have surfaced that he could hardly bend his knee after davis cup.
is he just playing in pain and not worrying about anything except winning matches?
does he just want to go out in a blaze of glory?
I personally would drop basel and shanghai asap. the risk is just enormous at this point.
he risks much and maybe all if there is another knee related episode.
this is truly a phenomenon with him considering he plays such risk free/high percentage tennis.

CD will you post a source? If this true, than dropping Basel is probably a no brainer.

well I saw something on another forum.
there was also a picture of him sitting down with his davis cup team. the picture showed very clearly that he could not bend his knee.
evidently he also made some general remarks: something to the effect that what he was doing was not good for his body.
it could only mean that he still has sufficient pain in the knee. how could he not?
just look at all the hard court activity compressed into such a short period of time.
take a close look at this picture. he is not able to bend his knee.
he is obviously enjoying winning matches again but you know he has to play with great deal of pain.

Maybe he prefers being photographed in this pose. There are tons of ways to interpret his stance. And even if it is sore, how is he in any more pain than Hewitt who has metal plates fusing his left big toe, Stepanek with plates in his neck, Haas who has broken every conceivable bone if his body. The list goes is endless. All players experience pain. They're not cyborgs. No point playing Shanghai I agree, but if he wants to do well at the WTF, Basel is the best tune up in terms of being the most similar surface. And he also gets a shot at Del Potro and Fed there for some top tier indoor tennis practice. Quite sure Fed's level will go up a bit for indoor season.
