This was one of the outtakes on the 18 cd marathon. Bob's very first take on 'Just Like a Woman' -

A rocked up alternate take on 'Visions of Johanna'. Some think it was directed at folk queen Joan Baez.

Time for some Glen Campbell who turned 80 recently and is going through some rough times.
His version of an Elvis Sun hit "Milkcow Blues Boogie" from a US musical variety show "Midnight Special' -

Back to the Bobster. This was from his Infidels album (circa 1984) and features mark Knopfler on guitar -

Bobster is a very complex singer/composer/musician that even his diehard fans has been unable to work out. I think that has been part of what made him so great for the most part anyway. Therefore you are not alone in that respect britbox. Last year for example he brought out an album entirely on Frank Sinatra songs completely surprising his fans who many would have not guessed that Old Blue Eyes was an influence. By years end , there was the 18 cd collection of vintage outtakes 'The Cutting Edge 1965-1966'.
Do you have an interest in Bruce Springsteen and his E-Street Band ?

Yes, I'm a fan of Bruce. I'll check more Bob Dylan stuff out.

Folk music would have suited the King. But he chose to record very few tracks. This Gordon Lightfoot hit was Elvis' best -

Oh no. Bob's new album is going to be another one covering Frank Sinatra's songs. Hey he's the Bobster he can do and record whatever he likes. What do you guys think of this ?

Yes i thought you would like his 1980's album 'Infidel's'. Think Mark Knopfler features on most of the tracks.

This track was recorded around the same year 1983 or 1984 but not released until 1991 'Bootleg Series Volumes 1,2,3 (actually official) by his record label -

Not his best rendition but this is really cool edit of film and matching audio of 'America the Beautiful'.
Back in 1976 the US was celebrating it's Bicentennial and the King was performing this song at nearly every concert that year.

Been trying to find anything from his actual bicentennial 4 July 1976 concert in Tulsa, OK. Even 8mm film will do !

That is lovely, though I prefer the original. Sometimes Elvis's voice is too much for a simple song. As he says at the end: "It's the difference between a jet and a freight train." His voice was too much jet for this freight train. I like Gordon's version better. Elvis was great on blues and rock, but I don't think folk was his milieu.

Moxie, which one ? Gordon waxed 'Early Morning Rain' twice in 1964 and again in 1975. As these two barely differ it's hard to understand why. Me, I liked the original -

Gordon's second version. It has extra instruments but the arrangements are basically the same.

Hey folks. Get a load of Babs version of John Lennon song 'Mother'. I wasn't aware of it. Barbara is the best ever female singer on the planet.

It's Mother's day over this part of the world tomorrow and I have been putting together a theme/quiz on anther forum on various mother songtitles. Over here I want to do another one on tv themes. Stay tuned -

Ultra rare 'Space Oddity' Bowie song recorded in either Italian or in Spanish. Not sure which one it is.
